    That's nuts!  Hadn't heard that!

Chiefs pulled out another great win against another good AFC team.  Unfortunately, they lost Pecheco for 6-8 weeks in the process to a fractured fibula I believe it was.  That'll hurt.  Hopefully Perine and Steele can platoon and cover the load.  Steele looks promising; just have to protect the football.

Worthy wasn't as involved in the offense this week, and Kelce has been too quite as well.  I'd also like to Smith-Schuster get more involved.  Especially now that it's been announced that Hollywood Brown is out for the season.

A second person who was shot had been hospitalized but is now dead.  Absolutely ridiculous.  If you are shooting someone over a football game, you are taking the sport too seriously.

Glad to hear it is going well :) calories burned is an interesting one: are you tracking it to gain / lose weight? If so then often a scale is more useful tbh as calories burned etc. need judged in conjunction with intake of calories, expenditure from other activities / existing and your general metabolism. Tracking scale gain/loss over time at the same time every day might be more reliable, or a lot of people just use a mirror test / pictures. Plusses and minuses to most approaches tbh

I really should check the scale, I have not done that yet.

The classes can be a bit chaotic.  It seems like at times there is not a lot of planning, they just wing it and throw things together as it goes along.  Better organization would be nice.  It is not always like that, but it can be.

  3. I am not sure what happened but last night I wrote and submitted a post in the football thread that did not go through, then when I came back today my replay was set up, but did still need to be posted.  I have not had this problem before with the old or new software, so I don't know if it was a mistake that I made, maybe I thought I submitted and I did not, or there was a glitch that lead to it.  Figured I would let you know.

Tua took another hard shot tonight, left with another concussion.  Hopefully he'll be ok.  They are really stacking up on him.  That was a rough game for him.

Right after he signed a four year contract this offseason that pays him over 200 million dollars.  Honestly, I hope he decides to retire.  It is not worth it to wreck your future.  If he were to retire, he would get at least 90 million of those dollars.  Take the money and protect your heath before your brain is mush.  This is not a prediction, just what I would like to see.

Related to his performance - he had a terrible interception that was returned for a TD, and the Dolphins lost the game by 21 points.

I often wonder how accurate the "calories burned" readouts on watches and treadmills actually is.  I figure they must have conjured up an average somehow, but still, I wonder...

Same.  According to my monitor I burned 700 calories in an hour workout on Thursday, but I have no idea if that is accurate, or how accurate it is about heart rate itself.  I was not started yet and was already at 93 heart rate, which does not make sense

I would say karate taught me about goal setting and incremental progress. It's like an antidote to the instant gratification of so many other things. Being able to grind away at something slowly over time has served me really well.

Since I started training as a kid, I'll also say that karate taught me my left from my right. That's been pretty handy...

Thought i would check in and ask how the routine is going? Hopefully it is all going smoothly and you are seeing some benefits :)

It is coming along.  I am starting to feel like it has become part of my routine, which is good.  I began wearing a heart rate monitor during my workouts this week to track my heart rate and calories burned.  I'm also drinking a protein shake after every workout.

For me, personally, i would say it is the confidence of knowing you can take a hit etc. Silly as it sounds i can think of multiple times when people have been behaving in a manner they shouldn't and other people have been tolerating it out of worry etc. and i have been confident to speak up and deal with it. I remember my other half telling me once "but you can't say that to them they might hit you" and being nonplussed by my response of "i have been hit plenty of times by bigger people than that who likely know how to hit better" - thankfully there isn't a huge issue with weapons here otherwise would be different!

I have also always thought that they are good for making you aware that appearances can be deceiving - plenty of exceptionally skilled and talented martial artists look like they couldn't hurt a fly - best one i can think of is just look at Mikey Musumeci : looks like a quiet, nerdy guy but is an amazing grappler / submission fighter.

Makes perfect sense to me.  Good answers.

  9. What are some of the most useful lessons you have gotten out of martial arts training that were not based on technique?

For me it was probably disciple and respect for authority.  As a young adult I did not have enough of that.  I'd also say the element of self-control.  When I was in Hapkido we were told "self-defense is an extension of self-control," and "we can't control what others do but we can always be in control of ourselves."  I remember in my early 20s being so frustrated when I couldn't get people to do what I wanted.  I would not like how they acted, tried to convince them to do something different, and they often ignored me and said, "I do what I want." Martial Arts helped me learn to accept that I can't control the decisions others make, and I learned to let go, embracing my own free will more.

  10. Now with week one in the books, how are you feeling about your team? I always think week one is the toughest to predict and often the sloppiest week of the season.  Lots of penalties in the games this week, that should improve as the season goes on but it does get frustrating watching games that have so many penalties.  We see too many penalties all season.

I did not enter an elimination league this year but of the few people I know who did have already been defeated.  They all had the Bengals beating the Patriots.  In one league 66% of the people picked the Bengals as their pick of the week, so on opening Sunday afternoon already 2/3 of the league is done for the season.

If your team lost, don't worry, it's only one game.  Last year KC lost the opener and won the Super Bowl, in other years teams have looked bad in week one and even week two but went on to have great seasons.  Also, if your team won, don't get too excited, it is the same deal.  The 2003 Vikings started 6-0 and missed the playoffs.  Week one doesn't tell us much, typically.
