Hello everyone. I hope you are all having an amazing day! I have been searching everywhere to get an answer to this one question and never found one. The question is pretty straightforward, which gym workouts should I do to increase height for the jump in Unsu or any other Kata jump. Yes, I know you have to do plyometric exercises and other stuff, but I'm asking for gym workouts, like leg presses and others. Also, no, I'm not talking about box jumps, tuck jumps or any other jumps, I'm talking about specific Unsu or other Kata jumps. Thanks.

Thanks for the reply everyone and for the articles. What about other karate styles like Shotokan, because now referring to sensei Kanazawa Hirokazu, he looks like he fully extends his arms and elbows when he punches. What do you guys think about Sensei Kanazawa's punches when it comes to arm/elbow extension?

Hello everyone, This question has been in my head the moment I started practicing Karate, is that when we do a straight punch in Katas like Seisan, Sanseru, and other Katas, do we have to fully and I mean fully extend our elbow or should we stop halfway through the punch, because once I decided to do one of those Sensei Morio Higaonna punch (really impactful punch) with full elbow extension..lets just say it didn't end really well. My elbow felt like it was de attaching itself for 3 seconds, but then I also tried to not fully extend my elbow, that did not work really well and the punch looked extremely awful. So yea basically should we fully extend our elbows or not? Thanks.

Let's take Rika Usami as an example. My hair is very similar to her's but mine is a tiny, just a tiny bit shorter and it's not straight like hers. It's kind of wavy. When she performs a Kata that has a jump in it, her hair stays still when she executes the jump even when she is mid-air. I'm pretty sure a lot of people might not know which hairspray she uses to keep her hair still, but a recommendation of any good hair sprays would be appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks for all the replies. I have decided to use hair sprays to keep my hair from moving all over my face. Do you guys know any specific strong hair sprays for martial arts or anything like that? Thanks again.

Hello everyone, I would like to ask a question about doing Karate with long hair. During class, my hair can get a bit messy but I don't mind fixing my hair back with my hands, but in tournaments, i can't do that, especially with Katas that has dynamic and sharp turns. How can you fix the long hair problem WITHOUT tying your hair (getting a ponytail, elastic bands, braids etc)? Thanks

Hi, sensei bushido. Yes, i mean in competition, like flags.
-
Thanks for the reply sensei Alan, that was a solid post. Yes, i will work on those points that you have mentioned. Thanks again.

Wow, if that is real point, then that is really unfair! Because I was planning on doing a Shito-Ryu Kata against an Unsu, even if they don't do Unsu, ill do a Shito-Ryu Kata against a high Shotokan Kata. So the judges in my tournament are all from Shotokan, does this mean that the Shotokan Kata will win against a Shito-Ryu one? Aside from the execution part.

Hello everyone, I know I have heard this a lot when people say a good kata can beat any Kata even a white belt Kata can beat a black belt ones, I'm not disagreeing with it I know that your Kata has to be good regardless of what Kata you are doing. But my question here is that which Kata can beat a good Unsu? I know it is a very difficult Kata to beat because it has so many technical moves to perform and if you perform those properly, it can get really tough to beat that Kata. Now, this has happened to me before and I had no clue on what to do against a good Unsu and ended up losing (this was a year ago). So, what Kata can beat a good Unsu? Thanks

Oh my god, I just finished my tournament and I got 1st place. I did not do the breathing exercises but instead, i tried to breathe deeply whenever I had that sense of stress. I still can't believe the fact that I did not get nervous one single bit, and by one single bit I mean it. I did 3 rounds and won all of them. From the bottom of my heart, i thank all of you guys for helping me do these exercises and techniques, it's gonna help me for the rest of my life. Thank you, I love you guys!!

Hello everyone, I have my tournament next month and I feel really nervous and stressed out just by thinking of it. I had a tournament 3 months ago and it did not go well at all as I was really nervous. I was so nervous I could not even lift my leg up to kick (in kata). Is there any technique or exercises that I can do to not get nervous, I mean whenever I search on google this, the only thing that they say is to not think of the tournament that much, which never really worked for me. How can WKF Karate-ka's do kata in front of 100 thousand people?? I would appreciate if someone tells me what to do to not get nervous (except for "don't think of the tournament" technique cause that never works for me). Thanks.

Im not trying to be disrespectful but why is there a red belt debate going on? The question was can i do gankaku sho in tournament if wfk rules apply??
-
Come on guys, by red belt i meant you know how in open tournaments they wear red and blue belts?? Not in my dojo. We dont even have red belts. What i meant was in an open tournament a person was wearing a red belt and he did the kata.

Hello everyone. So basically a couple of days ago i posted a new topic about basically me asking stuff about open tournaments. In the open tournament that i am gonna participate, underneath the participation form, it says WKF Rules Apply, but obviously it is not a WKF tournament its just that the rules of WKF applies. So my question was that can we do Gankaku Sho in an open tournament with rules like this? I know that its not an approved kata in the approved kata list of WKF, but the other day i saw this person wearing a red belt doing gankaku sho which means that it was an open tournament and his opponent was wearing a blue belt. Thanks
