  1. The most impressive experience I ever saw was when I got to train with a bunch of Korean masters and it was kinda like an exclusive club, but since i was practically raised by one of the masters he made me come ot pracitce. there were two masters there that were former Hodori and Korean Tigers team memebers but they were showing me Kyuk Too Ki which is liek full contacting kickboxing with grappling, and the way they sparred and counter each other's techniques with throw and locks was simply amazing.
  2. You're welcome Iceman, they are pretty cool, Ive gone through alot of Korean suppliers of websites, and they have tons of different types of uniforms like that with different colors.
  3. as far as what i know from speaking with alot of Korean masters some believe its a uniform for masters, but most ive talked to just require masters to wear them to distinguish them from the regualr uniforms so students can find the master if they need him
  4. I found the book very helpful. But I have been studying Hapkido for some time so its easier to follow the pictures. However Im not sure about the change in Kuk Sool Won Curriculum since the 80s. I dont study Kuk Sool Won but would like to one dy if a school ever opened up in my area. However I enjoyed the book as a reference and would recommend it as so. I hear the Kuk Sool Won authorized textbooks are bette rin detail though.
  5. Probably the 720; it starts off in a spingmotion in one jump execut e alow in/out kikc, the a roundhouse wiht the other leg and land on this foot but beofre you land the kick you finish with a back spinning hook kick with the first kicking leg. It looks nice for demos and such. Like my Master Choi always says adavanced spinning kicks are not used in real combat but are good for conditioning the body with coordination.
  6. EMAIL ME OR INSTANT MESSAGE ME AND I WILL SEND YOU THE FILE OF THE TKD VIDEO
  7. DONNIE DARKO, THE PROPHECY, LORD OF THE RINGS TRILOGY, A TIME TO KILL
  8. MY FAVORITE DEMO KICK IS THE 720 THEN MY FAVORITE KICK IS SPIN HOOK FAVORITE HAND TECHNIQUE: RIDGE HAND I LOVE SHORT STICK TECHNIQUES AND PRESSURE POINT MANIPULATION
  9. I DONT KNOW ABOUT SOME TAEKWONDO MOVIES BESIDES BEST OF THE BEST AND WHEN TAE KWON DO STRIKES (VERY ENTERTAINING) BUT IF YOU CARE TO WATCH KOREAN MOVIES WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES TRY "SWORD IN THE MOON" AND "MUSA" ARE SOME PRETTY COOL MARTIAL ARTS EPIC IN HISTORICAL KOREAN SETTINGS OH AND "BICHUNMOO"
  10. IM SORRY IF MY HOLY GHOST ANALOGY OFFENDED ANYONE BUT IT ACTUALLY DOES GO OVER WELL. I TRY NOT TO ARGUE AND NEVER GET INTO ARGUMENTS BECAUSE I HATE TURNING IT INTO A RELIGIOUS ARGUMENT. MY VIEWS ARE VERY DIFFERENT FROM CHRISTIAN BELIEFS SO ITS HARD TO REALTE TO THEIR IDEOLOGY BUT I TRY TO MAKE IT RELATE IN ORDER FOR THEM TO UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPT NOT SAY IT IS THE HOLY GHOST.
  11. i deal with this topic on a daily basis with teaching. My theory is ki is generated through mediation/prayer as Anthropologist of religion see it..For the christians the ki energy would represent the Holy Spirit entering your body and giving you the strength of the lord. Meditation is a form of prayer ..Jesus mediatated/prayed out in the wilderness for 40 days. He received special power form the Holy spirit to overcome Satan's temptations. I see no differenc ehere no matter waht your cultural beleifs are.
  12. I have a question then what about all other Korean martial arts that wear black uniforms like Kuk Sool Won, Hapkido, Haedong Gumdo, Teukong Musool, etc. Are these bastardize martial arts?
  13. WHITE BELT: FRONT KICK, ROUNDHOUSE, AXE KICK, SIDE KICK
  14. there is nothing wrong I find in variatio if its the same country's martial arts. I attempted to learn King Fu but I hated it hafter studying 11 years of Korean styles. They kept telling me I was worng and my instrucotr did not know what he was talking about and it becasue there is variation withing techniques. I find I'd rather be a master of few than a Jack of all trades. Similiar styles with in the same country origin are easier to learn because they are founded on similiar technical foundations. Taichi/qi gong is the only style other than Korean I have been successful with. I enjoy learnng about different style but I guess my body jsut doesnt like ot move in any other fashion
  15. my father studied hapkido and tae kwon do whil ehe was in the military in Korea. He went looking around for a school that met his liking and found one under Master Choi in Elkton, MD. HE wanted me to learn it because he enjyed it so much and I think its one of the strongest bonds but now he cant do it anymore because of injuries and disabilities but its there in his heart.
  16. i ahve been teaching martial arts and I have two students who come form strict Catholic backgrounds.. This comment is in no way offense towards Catholics.but however I find myslef getting into arguments with their mother alot because she says meditation is Satan's work drawing worship away from the lord and that ki engergy and and the devotion to channelig ki is a voodoo concept..lol I explain to her that think of ki engergy as the holy ghost's power withing them and they are finding way sof harnassing that power and concentrating on their techniques. She has a misconceived notion that i am having them pray to Buddha but however this is just another example of ethnocentric attitude in our culture

  18. college student/martial arts instructor//my goal is to become a professor of philosophy or a psychiatrist
  19. MY FRIEND TOM STUDIED EUROPEAN MARTIAL ARTS AND INCLUDED RAPIER FIGHTING AND i HAVE SPARRED WITH HIM USING A GA GUM WHICH IS A KOREAN STLYE KATANA AND I FINE THAT IT IS DEF. A DIFFICULT TASK FOR BOTH OF US AND IT USUALLY GOES BACK AND FORTH WITH NO WINNERS. IT IS AN EXCELLENT LEARNING EXPERIENCE TO SE EHOW DIFFERENT BLADES ARE USED ADN COUNTERED. ONE COMMENT HE MADE OT ME IS HOW FAST THE KATANA AND THE POWER IS HAS BEHIND ITS CUTS..i THINK THE RAPIER IS A VERY FAST PIERCING OBSTACLE THAT YOU HAVE TO BE VERY COMFORTABLE IN YOUR BLOCKS TO DEFEND AGAINST IT.
  20. TAI CHI FAN FORMS ARE VERY GRACEFUL AND REQUIRE ALOT OOF BLANCE, AND FLEXIBILITY DEF. A GOOD WORKOUT FOR THE MUSCLES..i PEROSNALLY ENJOY THE KUK SOOL OWN AND HAPKIDO FAN FORMS BUT THEY ARE MORE OF COMBAT APPLICATED STLYE FORMS
  21. alot of times it depends on the martial artist. Kung fu i know has at least 108 weaposn and I beleive Korean has around 97 that are widely used in martial arts. Tae Kwon do I know for example concentrate primarily with bo staff even though its an unarmed martial art. Hapkido has cane, bo, belt, fan, short stick, knife, spear, and various other ones. I am not to familiar with other country styles but I have been exposed to Korean and Chinese and they are some of the big ones ..persoanlly I lik ethe bo staff and Gum (sword)

  23. There is so many differnet styleof Hapkido its unbelievable..Not only do you ahve federation banner stlyes llus family style Hapkido, and differnet school that donot fall under any organization. For example I Know the Korea Hapkido Federation has somewhere around 74 different types of Kwans (schools/styles) under thier banner. This is probbaly the main federation I believe. Then you ahve the International Hapkido Federation which has Hapkido and Hankido under it. The oldsest federation are the KHF and the World Kido Federation. There are alot of American oragnaizations too some of which are brnaches form the IHF, KHF< and WKF. recently there are developing styles like COmbat Hapkdo. NAd Branches that are revativley Hapkido but fal under Kuk Sool name like eKuk Sool Hapkido or Hwarangdo that had alot of hapkido training before they changed the name.
  24. it depends mainly on the style of martil arts you practice. My Ji Do Kwan stlye Tae Kwon Do took 3.5 years and Hapkido was 4 years. Hapkido personally takes longer because there is so much that encompasses the curriculum. Degree to degree is a different story and i know alot of federations have age requiremnts. WTF offical first Dan is 16; 2nd dan is 18-19; and so forth and the Korea Hapkido federation has age requiremnts as well. I know their websites has the age postings for degrees. The KOrean HKD Federation lists all the techniques that have to be learned with each gup all the way through 5th degree black belt. However schools may vary from the official format because i know for th dan hapkido you ahve to learn horseback riding and archery form horseback and I dont recall hearing baout that in the U.S. schools having taught it.
  25. This kick was introduced in the blue belt curriculum in my Hapkido school. As long as you have the proper flexibility and snapping motion it can cause severe injury to the opponent. IT can be more effective thna snap kick or roundhouse in certia situations specificly in close combat scenarios. Versatality of this particular kick enables many practioners to strike with the ball of the foot or the instep depending on which part of the body you intend to strike. I know for one of my black belt testing breaks I had to use this kick to break a slab of concrete.
