Man. I had a great work out last night. My teacher gave me a good realistic creatique of how I was doing. My skill should increase 200% over the next 3 months. His skill just took a phenomenal leap after privately training when Master Chen Qingzhou for 15 days. His sensitivity and skill went way up. This is great because it will only take my skill to a higher level as well. Gotta love those internal martial arts. Marty

...The music can aid in meditation. During meditation, the brain waves slow down to the alpha and theta ranges. Dr. J. Thompson has cd's especailly designed with binurial beats which help entrain the brain to that level. The music is pretty non-thematic which helps you ignore the music and concentrate on the path to your goal of the meditation. Marty

MartialArm vs. Muk Jong
wingchunner replied to Sho-ju's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
I would never train with a Martialarm utilizing my Wing Chun. There is a specific reason for the way the wooden dummy is designed... specificly for Wing Chun. Marty -

The stances I train in I will use in combat. That was one of the things I really like about the styles I train in... they way we practice is the way we fight. Some of the styles that I had trained in previously I trained one way and sparred a different way. With the styles that I train in there is consistency. I love it. Marty

Center Line in Karate
wingchunner replied to Sho-ju's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
... most kung fu styles will refer to the centerline. It contains the body's center of gravity, it divides the left side from the right side, most of the major organs lie on or near the centerline, and it contains the tantien (tanden in japanese) which one cultivates chi (ki) (or internal energy). Wing Chun is unique in that it utilizes the centerline to regularly calibrate the techniques used as well as the structure of it's practitioners fighting position. marty -

ExaltedLegend- Come visit us sometime if you live near Wooster. Where are you from. As to the centerline. Of course Karate uses the centerline. It is a fundamental concept of most martial arts systems. However, Karate doesn't utilize the centerline in the same way that Wing Chun does. Have a great day. Marty -

Christianity and the whole "ki" issue
wingchunner replied to nathanjusko's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
...that it's too difficult to discuss chi/ki online. I would have to work with you in person for you to really understand it. I practice the internal martial arts and have been working on them for some time. I also am Christian (practicing, of course). I do not have a problem with the concept of chi/ki. The christian studying the martial arts does need to be aware of what they believe and what the ma instructor is teaching. Some teachers (who are not Christian) may be teaching practices which are not a part of what a follower of Jesus should be involved in. I have been very fortunate. Have a great day. Marty -
