the following is a calistenics routine i plan to work forward to. (i'm not in quite good enoung shape now) pushups- 2 sets 150 reps pull ups- 2 sets 30 reps chinups- 2 sets 30 reps sit ups- 2 sets 150 reps squats- 2 sets 200 reps tricep pushups (dips) 2 sets 150 reps squeezy thing- 2 sets (each hand) 200 reps jogging- 1 mile what do you think? any suggestions? anything you would add? i'm trying to stick strickly to calistenics for several reasons, so don't make this a debate about weights vs. calistneics.

which ones are better?
-
my bad, i mean i'd never seen anyone with more than 2bbs. my sensei has 2bbs.
-
thanks for the info. sounds like a good style for me. what weapons do they teach? and do they teach unarmed defenses against modern weapons? (guns, kinves etc.)
-
what do you guys think of bowflex?
-
just what did you think of it in general? is it good for self defense? how long does it take to get a blackbelt. (and please i'd like to know how long it takes to get a black belt because i am a believer that you start learning at a bb, so please don't tell me that i should just focus on learning the art it self instead of attaining belts.
-
who goes to an oyama karate dojo, same thing.
-
hey, thug tkd, what styles do you have bbs in? never met anyone who had bbs in more than one style before.
-
Who here does oyama karate? what do you think of it? how long does it take to get a black belt?
-
Anyone know where i can find a list of hapkido schools in ny, preferably westchester county. thanx.
-
are the mental aspects of traditional hapkido useful? also does traditional hapkido give you a workout? does combat hapkido have anything traditional hapkido doesn't have?
-
is shotokan karate a "combative martial art"? why or why not?
-
hey guys thanx for the advice, helped alot. martial artist 1975, i live in westchester, a suburb just north of nyc. if you could recommend a few wing chun or jiu jitsu dojos, that would be great. also, another question, what arts do these arts best cross train with, and how do these 4 mas comare to other mas that you know alot about. lastly which of these arts is best siuted to self defense IN YOUR OPINION. thanx
-
i've been considering going to a dojo which is part of the world oyama karate group in the us, founded by mas oyama. i was wondering, what style of karate do these dojos teach, or is oyama karate a style in it of itself, and if so what style did it originate from? also how does it compare to other styles of karate, namely okinawan karate?
-
First of all i'd like to know what people think of these arts individually. Second i'd like to know what people think of these arts in comparison to each other for self defense, sport, etc. i don't want any art bashing and i'm not trying to see which art is best, just objective and constructive comparison. also if anyone had list of wing chun or jiu jitsu dojos in ny state, could you post a link? (i already know of a krav maga nd shotokan place near me). thanx.

So what do you think of the two styles? how do they comare? which one do you which one is better for self defense? if two people practiced each art for ten years a fought, who would win? and lastly, as a followup, does Kung Fu have a belt system, and if so, how long does it take to get a black belt?
-
So, what disadvantages does the art have? I don't want to bash the, art. I'm thinking of taking some classes in it.
-
i'm looking for a style that's really centered around nerve strikes, pressure points, etc. I doesn't necessarily have to be the most complete system in the world, because i'm thinking of crosstraining, but if it was complete that certainly wouldn't be bad. Also, i want the pressure points and nerve strikes etc. to be practical, something i could really use in a self defense situation. Lastly, i'd like your input on any style that meets these criteria, but i'm particuraraly interested in one that would also be somewhat popular, because i live in a small suburb and there aren't very many dojos near bye. thanks for your input.
