I decided on a school to start MA. It is a Songahm TKD school and they have a lot of students. Not in one class but overall that includes the kids and the real little children. They have about 100 students. One nice thing is they give everyone their first month free to try it out. That is a nice way to decide if you like it or not. I can't complain about the price either, and I met some of the students and they said it is a great school and they definitely encourage each other to stay focused if someone needs it. Just thought I let everyone know.

Does anyone know if the traditonal karate or Taekwondo will give me more of a workout while training. I am also trying to lose weight while taking MA, but have not decided which one yet. Please let me know, especially if someone is taking that style

I was wondering if anyone knows if taking the glucosamine/chondrotin is really worth it. A couple of years ago I got a broken wrist, so I have 4 plates and 4 screws in my wrist. A relative who is a veterinarian says i should take it because it helps keep the cartilidge good. What does everyone think and if they know if it is worth it!

I am planning on starting soon either Tae Kwon Do or Tang Soo Do (Soo Bahk Do). Can anyone tell me about any differences in the two styles or if they are similar. I am having trouble finding specific descriptions of them, even with a search on google. Any help would be nice. Thanks

I am wondering for those of you that have read these magazines, which magazine do you think is better. I like to read them with the different techniques and just the basic learning of things, and what is going on in the MA world. I do not have a subscription yet, but I am planning on getting one. Right now I am leaning on getting Black Belt magazine. Let me hear what others think about the magazines. Erik

What does everyone think? I have been doing Okinawan Kempo for about 2 months now, but I am also trying to lose some weight and I am successful in that with my diet, but for the resistance and toning training. I am thinking of using the Total Gym. I have heard good things about it. Does anyone have any experience in it or what do they think about it. Erik

I am wondering if anyone has a good diet recommendation that helps for losing weight besides with training. I don't know if the High protein, high carb, zone or what other diets are the best. Thanks Erik

Congratulations on achieving your brown and for your son. I have just started Okinawan Kempo myself and the instructor says that she can't believe how quickly I am picking it up. Maybe from some other sports I played that the stances and things helped. I don't know but it is nice when it doesn't take long to get good at something, but I will still have to work at it to become second nature. Congrats again.

I have decided on a style from my local schools. I got it down to Soo Bahk Do (formerly Tang Soo Do), and Okinawan Kempo. In the end I chose Okinawan Kempo. The school has a good reputation and they have gotten awards for their teaching and they promote self-defense and not the sport of competition. If I want to, they also teach Tai-chi. The price is not bad either except for the first month. You get two one hour private lessons for $49.50 and then when you start classes with everyone else it is a yearly fee of $35 and with it you get discounts on books, equipment, video, uniforms, etc. and it is $53.50 per month for the kempo. If you take kempo and tai-chi it is a discount and there is also a family discount. Thanks for everyone that gave their input of helping me know about the styles. Erik

I found the school I am checking out in the yellow pages. They do not have a website as far as I know. But I will find out when I go there next week to check it out. I went last night to check them out, but because of the freezing rain, he put a sign up that he cancelled class. I know they have been around for a while and it is just local and not the chain schools. If you want to look the name of the school is "St. Cloud Soo Bahk Do Karate" Thanks Erik
