  1. Get a good digital camera. Illustrations can sometimes show what can't be written. Just remember that people learn different ways (visual, audio, and etc).
  2. With regard to children it is best that you do not get personal. For instance if they want to exchange e-mail, reply to them in class. If you cannot speak to them about their email, I.M., and etc in public, you’ve overstepped the “personal line”. I see nothing wrong with group activity. However, group activity on spur-of-the moment notice is a problem. You have to give everyone plenty of notice. It sounds like you are wonderful with children and they respond to you well. You won’t hurt the children with a professional relationship. Remember the children have parents to make impressions from.
  3. That is really good!
  4. Count. If you hear what number you are on, you are breathing. Say each number out loud, don't whisper. If you don't like counting key-up on every 5 reps. of whatever you are doing.
  5. I am biased in my opinion, but I think you need to be in a striking art like tae kwon do. Remember, all martial arts are good. You have to decide on what you think you would like to do. Do you like grappling, joint locks, kicking, punching, using weapons, and etc. Once you find out what you think you would like doing, there is a martial art out there for you.
  6. Cloth I find my students have more control over their techniques.
  7. It sounds like you have physical talent; now what you need is patience. Treat your best technique like magic trick. Have you seen a magician his best trick twice?
  8. Do any of you know of any websites with Martial Arts Clipart?
  9. Green belt (7th Gup)
  10. As an instructor I find that my students teach me. Teaching is another part of training. Congratulations! Take advantage of the opportunity. Don't be afraid of giving what has been given to you.

  12. From what I read it sounds like that second degree has poor control. Higher-ranking people shouldn’t need blood contact to confirm their skill. If you ask me, the answers you get from this forum should be printed and given to that second degree. If the second-degree felt pressured enough to use hard contact, you must have been doing something right! You are learning. The learning process isn’t always a smooth road. If you feel you are doing something wrong, next time ask a senior ranking person in your class to critique your sparring.

  14. 1. Measure your opponent and know how far they have to be to effectively reach you with the technique you don't want to be hit with. 2. Once you know this distance, stay on the inside or just outside of range. 3. Realize that you are going to have to keep moving. The distance between you and your opponent is going to constantly change. It's up to use do decide on what technique you want to use once you have the jump on them.
  15. The best time to begin your attack is when the other person is attacking. Pending on the other person's flexibility, you may be able to get a shot in if the other person is off balance in their attack on you. Do they lean in too much when they punch and/or do they lean too far back when they kick are some questions you need to address with your opponent. These are head kick opportunities for you. Study who you are fighting, height means nothing if they don't know how to use it to their advantage.
  16. Do you prefer to spar with the cloth shin and instep or the foam boot?
  17. How many of you practice palgwe forms?
  18. $40 per month is not bad. $30 - 35 would be great, but you will only find this sort of price range with gyms that just open. Too high would be $65 and up.
  19. With putting an emphasis on body shots as your primary attack, remember you may have to work a little longer to weaken your opponent. Get your cardio up so you can feel comfortable and focus your strikes so nothing gets wasted.
