  1. I live in London but if i get the chance ill come and do some sparring with you! You sure are determined. Good Luck man. I mean that. Keep us up to date with how you are doing.
  2. Conditioning your face? hummmmm interesting idea. Sparring with gloves on works. You cant really condition the face any other way. Since i started boxing my nose has become alot wider and i think its alot stronger. Mouth you cant do. eye brows thicken too. Try repeatedly hitting each other in the face with a baseball bat. or slamming you head onto a table a few times a day. That might work. Or you could try learning to block, cover ,bob slip and weave your way out of the way of punches. Just a thought....
  3. Calm down. Youre going mental over nothing. MT varies from club to club and some specialise more in boxing, some the knee, some kicking etc. The clubs that specialise in boxing can keep up with boxers. You cant compare the boxing you see in a MT ring with what they can do in a boxing ring. It doesnt work like that. You cant box to the same degree because you are fighting at different ranges. Therefore kicking and kneeing comes into it and and will limit the amount of punching you do. Remove the MT stuff and let them box and they will look alot different. I would not diss boxing and dont believe i have as i would be dissing myself as i train at a pro boxing gym and MT gym on different nights. This does not just apply to where i go though.
  4. Rules is spelt ROOLES. Get it right man.
  5. I would stop. Not give up. There is a difference. If it makes him happy to get it wrong thats him but i know i wouldnt be happy doing that. Realistically any decent grading he turns up to will throw him out laughing. Not for lack of effort but because he will get everything wrong. I dont want to be mean but im trying to be realistic. If he can do i then i will eat my words no problem. I have been doing this game a while now and I think he is %100 DOING THE WRONG THING. I admire his determination though. I think if most of you are honest you will agree withme. I dont want to think we would encourage him to do something incorrectly just because of his enthusiasm. Dont you agree?
  6. Anyone can get a black belt. Sorry but its true. You cant fight just because you have a black belt. Who is going to correct his mistakes. He cant. who knows how he will interperate what is in the book. Sorry its just nonsence.
  7. My MT coach is a boxing coach too so that helps as we do loads of boxing. I think some other clubs are like that too. Best way to beat a boxer is to do Bxing and a system that does some kicking. Oh MT doeas that. Just make sure the coach is a pro boxing coach too. There are some around.
  8. True most Thai Boxers dont do well in boxing and stay at low levels mainly because most good ones choose to stay in MT. Not saying they could all compete at high levels in boxing. Carknek, you dont understand MT at all. Its full of tricks and is very hard to go against. the kicks are unique and it has a large range of kicks which most people dont see or notice when they watch it.
  9. You cant do it. If you learn from a book. You cant do much from a book. You cant even drive a car from a book. You sure are motivated but its misguided and art in martial art is not like painting or music. There is art to driving a car. It means reaching a point where you are no longer being drriven but are in complete control. It refers to the level of skill involved. Not the way it does in painting and music which is an expression of self. Martial artsd are not that they are for fighting.
  10. Well Cracknek i did say at the same skill level but i guess that would make the outcome obvious. Kickboxing doesnt kick the legs its waist up only. And MT guys do punch as well as boxers. I do MT and one of the guys at my club is a sparring partner for Lenox Lewis. ALso we can all pucch with the boxers and some compete in amatuer and pro boxing as well as Thai Boxing even though they only do MT.
  11. Problem is you dont know if it works of not. If it doesnt what you going to do then. The truth of the matter is that it takes fewer punches to stop someone than kicks and boxers therefore have an advantage. This is mainly due to the fact that most punches are aimed at the head and are easier to land time after time than a head kick. However it all depends on skill levels. Im not into using techniques ive never seen work with my own eyes.
  12. Thats a bit unfair cracknet as kickboxing does hold all of boxing and boxing holds no kicks. Do remember that kickboxing and Thai boxing include ALL BOXING techs and (im not sure with kickboxing) but Thai boxing has actually got more hand techniques than boxing. SO unknown is justified in saying that he can fight a boxer. He knows a regular boxers moves. Kick boxing and boxing and Thai boxing all have the SAME punching system. Remember that.
  13. The average Karateka cant do leg kicks so forget it. When i did karate we covered it quite often but i never really got it to work in sparring because we werent meant to use it in sparring and when i tried it outside of class i could not get it to work beacuse i didnt know it well enough and i have never seen a Karateka that does. Now I do Muay Thai i can use the low leg kick well and my old friends at Karate(varius clubs) aint got a clue.
  14. Dont need to have experience at avoiding the shoot. Just when they see a target they will hit it hard and fast. A shoot may well turn into a fall like that. But i dont disagree entirely just making a point and it is propably the best chance youve got.
  15. I did JKD for about a year and i would say from what i have seen that it is now %100 a style even if thats not what people want it to be. Sorry!
  16. Boxers run loads, every day usually so their legs are very strong. Hard to drop someon with on leg kick. In my experience this is rare so i would not count on it. Leg kicks wear people down quickly so they are very useful in that respect but i dont see them as a "finishing" move by any means. I use punching for that.
  17. Well you cant unless you can get him to the ground and although people train this they rearely train against a boxer. Could be hard. To BKJ1216: You cant just do it like that man boxers swarm you like killer bees.
  18. I think that at this stage JKD is as good as a style in istself because all the good moves have been extracted. Once this was done and these are the moves taught you enter the stage where you produce students who have a very similar fighting style. I believe that you then have a new style although the principal remains.
  19. Listen TJS is right. I did Karate for two years and even when you do a leg block it is not trained often enough to be usable and they dont have the conditioning. Ok Karate can Kick but the speed and accuracy of boxing is amazing and you will have to kick a boxer alot because they are used to getting hit and on top of that they are very adaptive and will rapidly find the openings. You will find it hard to take many punches from a boxer because they hit with very fast combinations.
  20. Boxing, kick boxing and muay thai are all effective so if the opponents were at the same skill level MT swill win. Why.. Well All have western boxing. so if they are at the sam skill level they should be evenly matched. Next kickboxing beats boxing beacause it then adds kicking. MT beats kickboxing because it adds knees elbows clinch and throws. Simple as that on paper but never testable in reality and it takes longer to get good at MT than boxing.
  21. nO ErR i dONt tHiNk sO
  22. CRAKNEKS RIGHT. IF YOU EVER TRY SPARRING WITH A GOOD BOXER YOU WILL BE IN FOR A NASTY SURPRISE THE PUNCHES COME FORM ALL ANGLES AND VERY FAST. ONE OTHER THING YOU ARE MISSING IS THAT THEY HAVE EXCELLENT FOOTWORK AND CAN MOVE AROUND YOU AND FIGHT MOVING BACKWARDS VERY WELL SO YOU HAD BETTER BE DAMN GOOD COS WITH OUT GLOVES YOU WONT TAKE MANY SHOTS BEFORE YOU GO DOWN AND ONCE THEY SEE THAY HAVE HURT YOU,WELL............IT AINT GONNA LAST MUCH LONGER.
  23. YEAH YOUR HYPEREXTENDING BE CAREFUL AND DONT LOCKYOUR ELBOWS. YOU CANT GET A REPLACEMENT
  24. iF YOU HAVE EVER DONE BOXING YOU WOULD REALISE THAT IS PROBABLY THE BEST PUNCHING SYSTEM IN THE WORLD AND VERY EFFECTIVE FOR SELF DEFENCE. hOWEVER IT IS PUNCHING ONLY. iN PUNCHING RANGE A KARATEKA OF THE SAME SKILL LEVEL AS A BOXER WILL LOSE. BUT IF THE KARATEKA KEEPS THE BOXER IN KICKING RANGE AND MAKES PUNCHES AT OPERTUNITIES CREATED FROM KICKING THEN HE CAN WIN. REMEBER THOUGH PUNCHING ALMOST ALWAYS BEATS KICKING. ALMOST ALWAYS!
  25. Yes I agree but i cant train like that on a regular basis unfortunately.
