I noticed Korean dojang do not use makiwara having been a Shotokan practitioner we were trained with the one punch, one kill philosophy also Kobudo training is disappearing from a lot of dojos.
I have two very well known Tang soo do dojangs in my area one charges $75 a month and they train Monday to Friday. The other one is a Korean master he wants $120 a month and they only train 3 times a week. I've been to both but can't decide which one? both instructors are excellent by the way.
I'm from NJ and we are limited as far as styles to choose from unless you're from Phylly or NYC. the teacher open up a new school he teaches mon wed and fri. one week he'll teach striking the next week grappling and throw a little krav maga there are no contracts you buy what he calls credits so if you train all 3 days of the week in a month it comes to $180
Found a school were the instructor combines muy thai, Bjj, Taekwando, and krav maga its 3 times a week so it comes to $180 a month I noticed when I visited thee were only 3 students training. would you guys find this to expensive? thanks.
Be cautious as to what mats the school uses Judo mats should be thicker than any other martial art besides Aikido where you get thrown a lot. Being older I found Ukemi the hardest its the core of Judo if you can't take the falls then is not for you.
I recently read an article were they state that all Korean arts are copied from Japanese arts because of Japan's occupation of korea , sorry cant remember who made the article but they mention likes like tang soo do came from Shotokan, hapkido came from aikido and so on...
Also would you guys go to a Korean instructor or an American? I have options but from I noticed the Korean charges more for class than the American dojo, were the American dojo trains 6 days a week and the Korean dojo does not. any input would be appreciated.
I tried a trial of Aikido @ my local dojo but it seems I just couldn't get it the instructors were very qualified in fact they trained in Japan but the truth is I can't see myself in a real combat situation doing those fancy moves. I was told O'Sensei watered down a lot from Daito-Ryu and I also noticed they put to much emphasis on the spiritual part it freak me out kneeling in front of a image of Usheiba being a Christian.
