  1. No but I'm learning it next year in highschool. Or am I learning it as a sophmore. Hmm I can't remember, I'll tell you next year.
  2. I'm starting highschool next year and I want to play for football. I shoudl be a yellow belt in karate by then, and will be able to go to football practice. I really have 2 questions so here goes. 1. They offer free weight training. Shoudl I do it? 2. Will I overwork myself with football partice and karate?
  3. Yeah I just finished my first month of karate classes. We've learned 1 and a half katas, the complete one is a nunchuku kata, the other one is one I have no idea how to spell and won't make an attempt to. I just want to know if this is normal or not. My teacher is great, she explains everthing quite well, and I've been able to pick up fast.
  4. Sounds more like a freak accident. I mean it seems this woud only happen in psycial activity, it's not directly related to the karate instruciton itself.
  5. To tieing the obi serioulsy I follow these instructions in this booklet to the print and I wind up with a not that looks nothing like the one in the photo. Someone post the steps they use. And please, please do not reply with the very frequent answer of "ask a senior" I understand that that's where I should start, but if that's all you have to say, then don't say anything at all because that's not what I want to here. A
  6. I have the center of it on my stomache but I mean I follow everything as instructed, I wind up with a square not, but it looks nothing like what the one in the photo looks like. I can't shake the feeling that the words didn't quite match the picture.
  7. I'm not able to ask my sensei right now. The dojo is incredibley crowded and my sensei has a knack for escaping the scene rather quickly.
  8. Yeah but I don't want to have someone tieing my belt for me every time I need to...
  9. I don't think that it's a way to get more students seeing as they dont give the handbooks out to people who aren't students.
  10. I've tried like 15 diagrams trying to tie my obi, and none of them work it always comes out looking weird. Can someone please like maybe link me to a vidoe maybe?
  11. Okay well I started karate class May 12. Anyway this was my frist karate class and myself being in the poor psyichal conditon I am had to take a breather about 30 minutes into it. During this time my Sensai decided to show the others the punching techniques. Well I missed out what the japanese names for them were, and the second class I still had no luck remembering. Anyway can someone please tell me the japanese names for left jab right reverse punch and front kick
  12. I was reading through my "Official Shudokan Karate-Do Handbook" today and noticed a little part that said "...most students will be able to defend themselves very well within 6 months of training." Now if none of you are familiar with shudokan don't worry but does this sound like a realistic statment?
  13. Laughin histerically at what kchnault said besides that though I had to buy a size 8 (I'm fat) and well I heard someone say earlier a size 7 shows a lot of chest. Well being fat I have the unfortunate case of *cough*excessbagageonthechest*cough* and I"m quite embarassed about it. Would my *coughexcessbagage* show through if I didn't have a T-Shirt?
  14. Well I never thought of this before but I guess it is important. I started karate on the 12th and just bought my Gi today, I was wondeirng am I suposed to wear a shirt under it?(I'm a guy just so theres no confusion). Oh and also would the sensai be mad if I wore a cup for any reason? Like would I get any funny looks seeing as there will be a bulge sticking out of my pants (which could be mistaken for something else) I already had a brush with a nasty heel to testicle expirience and I don't want it to happen again.
  15. Tell him he's not suposed to do that, and make sure he learns that before he/she is promoted to a higher rank.
  16. what do you consider? vague enough?
  17. It's a joke dude...
  18. Yeah I was just wondering what you guys considered slef defense.
  19. Uhh somethign that gets your energy moving, is fast paced, and easy to follow up with the techniques.
  20. *BKJ takes notes*: remmeber to set aside large amount of time for 10,000 reps and buy a punching bag
  21. There's just no question about it, Sum Ting Dum is the best. I mean if you follow up a Mah Finga Huts with Ouh Mah Fut it's a lethal combination.
  22. Well if you mean like a street fight street fight where there are multiple weapons around and so many other obsticales that a diry fighter could use, I'd bet that it would be a lot harder then your dojo thinks.
  23. I'm aginst people making a living by offering false services.
  24. I'm not sure if that's even possible for me. I've heard places that SHudokan has over 400 kata.
