  1. Great post, all we need now is for someone to make some trading cards of all these and we could make some money!! Kickboxing: 1) Ground 0 2) Throws/Takedowns 0 3) Infighting 3 4) Punching 5 5) Kicking 4 6) Weapons 0
  2. I recieved these in an email but had to share These are metaphors from actual GCSE essays : Her hair glistened in the rain like nose hair after a sneeze. The red brick wall was the colour of a brick-red crayon. Even in his last years, Granddad had a mind like a steel trap, only one that had been left out so long it had rusted shut. The young fighter had a hungry look, the kind you get from not eating for while. She had a deep, throaty, genuine laugh, like that sound a dog makes just before it throws up. It came down the stairs looking very much like something no one had ever seen before. The ballerina rose gracefully en pointe and extended one slender leg behind her, like a dog at a lamppost. She walked into my office like a centipede with 98 missing legs. Hope they brightened your day Anyone got anymore to add?
  3. If this question has been posted before I appologise. I was just wondering what peoples tactics were in a ring fight (3-5 rounds)? Do you like to go in hard and fast from the start?, or do you take it easy at first to look at your opponents movements etc. The only tournaments i've been in were just 1, two minute round, with the winner going through to the next opponent so obviously there is no time to take it easy in the beginning.
  4. Monkeygirl, can I just ask, what is a cyber charter school? Sounds interesting, I've never heard of that (maybe coz I live in England?). Also, driving is FANTASTIC, although in 4 years of having a license i've had one car stolen (ford fiesta) and another (ford escort) driven into, which wrote both cars off. I now have a crappy 1.2 corsa that does 0-60 in...well...if your lucky really!
  5. I think it depends on the level of sparring. I started light contact sparring quite early on and found it taught me a lot, techniques that work well both in attack and defence, footwork etc. Especially useful after having just learnt/practised a new technique. I do kickboxing though so this might be different to the more traditionial martial arts.
  6. At the moment I am doing a lot of bag work at the gym I go to. Have found it great for building stamina (doing 2 min rounds followed by 1 min rest) and practising those combinations. I tend to use a harder bag (especially when kicking) and it is also good for shin conditioning. Definately suggest investing in one!
  7. Thanks people, I was originally gonna call myself monkeyboy coz that was my nickname when I played rugby...good job I didn't monkeygirl, wouldn't want to start rumours already!!
  8. Hi everyone. My name's Dave (couldn't think of a good user name so have adopted the name of my girlfriends cat!!), I'm 21 and have been doing kickboxing for about 2 1/2 years. I'm currently training hard in the hope of getting some proper ring fights in the next couple of months so no doubt i'll be asking....begging...for advice
