  1. So yeah Ive been thinking about the concept for a while now and I /might/ have a way to make something like it possible. so if you're familiar with the concept of extreme adrenaline rushes that in emergency situations have allowed people to lift cars, boulders etc. thats what Im thinking. would it be possible to use self hypnosis to initiate that outpouring of adrenaline at will? and if you were to reinforce your body with flawless mastery of Ki control wouldn't that be something like Kaioken? O.o well thats my theory, Ive been steadily working at it so ill let you know how it goes I guess. I dont want to be just a martial artist. I want to reach the hidden depths of human power, far beyond what anyone thought possible previously. thats my ultimate goal. Any thoughts on my theory?
  2. sometimes I spar with my sensei. or.... more like he lets me attack him really. I know he'd cream me in nothing flat if he went all out against me xD but its good cause I can really see my weak points as opposed to the other students who aren't quite as adept at reading opponents. One thing about me is that I fight hard in the face of any opponent and I don't get all nervous and tensed up cause he's the sensei. and I think they really respect that, I know I would. Courage is a key quality in any good martial artist. I mean... its just the dojo so its not like hes gonna beat the snot out of his own students. lol
  3. Chi (or Qi, Ki) maniulation isnt something everyone has the patience for. but its there. most people do it on a basic level without even recognizing it. The concept of a kiai (the yelling and whatnot) during a strike or when feeling pain actually unlocks some of the chi from within you. so really everyone can do it on a basic level without even really trying. but to purposely use chi in attacks and defense to where its obvious something other than physics is at play is a very rare skill indeed. But for the few who have mastered it its a force to be reckoned with. Of course Im something of a mystic specialist anyways. so a lot of people may not believe what I say but its true... The human body, when pushed past its limits displays incredible power. My studies outside the dojo are largely composed of researching ways to harness that power. Making believers out of skeptics is the hardest part though, as with anything of this nature.
  4. for me. Even If I cant get them to start practicing a martial art, most people find it nice to know a technique or three for future reference. so assuming you have the belt rank in your system to prove you know the techniques your showing you could always do that. most people aren't opposed to that. (thats just the rule on student teaching in my system though idk about others?...)
  5. training with a mixed style is a lot cheaper and less time consuming than doing cross training at different places, haha. My style mixes Goju shorei, american kenpo, shotokan, tae kwon do, okinawan shorin Ryu, Judo/jujitsu/aikido, and escrima/arnis.
  6. I prefer open hand strikes; shuto, nukite, palm heel etc. just makes it that much quicker to go from strikes to grabs. and my palms don't get all sweaty that way either. lol
  7. I'd say a martial artist has an obligation to stand up for those who are too weak and frightened to defend themselves. I certainly would say something, but don't /try/ to make a fight out of it. Judo is a doozy of an art to know in these situations. If any violence does regrettably occur you can knock someone down without really hurting them at all. hence showing your skill without the assault charges or injuries on either party.and Id say thats not evena fight, just very skillfully asking him to sit back down... ^^; so that decision should be made based on this guys aggression level when confronted verbally and on what art you know. I came across a very similar situation in highschool...
  8. Never been a fan of Kata myself... I have no interest in doing competitive katas, I like my movements less pre-specified and Id frankly rather memorize individual techniques and string them together myself. I usually prefer light sparring with emphasis on technique usage. or back and forth drills or on the spot combos. Stringing together that many moves to me is just one more thing you have to remember outside of the techniques themselves and a fight simply WILL NOT happen that way. so... for me Katas are a little silly. but I do what I have to... ^^;
  9. at my dojo we can get one at blue belt (4th rank up) basically when they think you're serious about it I guess. I need to get there quickly before I wear a hole in these pants. lol
  10. lol I dont even have a car. but when I get my really nice Gi around blue belt or so Id say I would probably feel that way too. the one I have now is cheap and a bit too small. I can almost do splits now but my pants aren't even close. xD kind of a pain but oh well..
  11. there was a black belt that attended one of our seminars who only had one leg. now thats dedication!
  12. Id say that makes sense. a kid was asking me about my MA when I was walking there from my house... hope he joins us ^^
  13. Like Patrick Swayze in Road House: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_msb7eQA-RFY/SrP5WXHXiLI/AAAAAAAABhw/jQ8igT1TKqA/s640/road-house-weird-looking-wraparound-gi-shirt.jpg hahaha! not... quite what I meant but I guess close enough xD
  14. I started out In my style, Goju keno only about 3 months ago. and so far Ive dropped 2 pants sizes and I feel great. Its really all about what ind of place it is. some schools will have mercy on the less-than-athletic, and some tend to have a more sour attitude. you have to get a feel for the people there first. but after that just go for it. you gotta have the guts to jump in with both feet and not give up. cause really it gets easier and easier from there and no one (hopefully) is rushing you to get to higher ranks. so you can kinda hang back a bit rank-wise till you feel healthy and fit enough to take it up a notch. I stayed a white belt for 2 1/2 months or so even though I had the skill to go up after like 3 weeks. But my body didn't feel ready to climb too quick. nowadays I feel great and Im ready to tackle anything they can throw at me. I hope everything is going well for you so far ^^
  15. Backfist IMHO is not really an attack one can use all the time. but as with any technique has its place. I try to use it a little closer than most people because if a stretched out backfist is blocked it tends to cause problems for me. but thats just me. but I tend to have my own version of everything. lol
