  1. Thanks for the welcome cool to meat another "same" guy
  2. I also love learning new katas It's always something new and you always learn something from a new kata. But what I actually like more than a new kata is suddenly understanding one you already know (in a sense of you know the order of the techniques) much better or suddenly after training it get the edge of it how to do it much better etc. Cheers T3chnopsycho
  3. Well my goals are: 1. Go to training regularly --> 3 Times a week 2. Go to both of our Clubs tournaments ( We have to tournaments per year) 2. a) Get a medal in both tournaments (kata or kumite) 3. Visit all Gasshukus 4. Do my Nidan. ( Could have already done it three times but personally didn't think I was ready and once didn't have time due to some personal matters) 4. a) Polish all Katas I've learned so far. That would mean get them all back in my head and be able to do them good (not only know all moves but be able to do the technique strong) 4. b) Work on my Techniques 5. Do normal fitness (Bodytraining / Conditioning / Cardio) twice a week beside my normal MA training. --> Regularly 6. Well if I do all above then this should come automaticaly --> get a Six pack ^^ These are my goals It won't be easy because I'm currently nearing the end of my current education so I've got a lot of exams etc. but still no matter what never stop trying Cheers T3chnopsycho
  4. When I was in Kindergarden and first grade (I lived in the US at that time) my best friend did Karate. Well then when we got back to Switzerland my brother desperately wanted to start doing Karate so our mother looked for a Dojo. She found one and my brother went there. Well anyway at that age brothers always want to do the same things so I also started. And here I am now about 10 years later. My brother quit in the meantime but I'm still doing it and the longer I do it the less I want to stop ^^ Cheers T3chnopsycho
  5. I agree with both points. On one hand a person with large physical power can be beaten by someone weeker who has a better technique. Like not getting hit or through countering. On the other hand someone with technique can still lose if he (in case of a real fight) can't bring up enough hitting power to do serious damage because the other guy just has a huge endurance. Anyway in the end both things are important and if you want to grow you have to train and exercise your techniques (to get faster less obvious and to be able to use more power) and your physical state (to get faster more enduring and just to have more that you can then put in your technique). Cheers
  6. Well I've never experienced that a BB was downgraded or something. We've had a BB who started to train like 30 years ago with our Soke and trained for years --> reached BB and then sometimes later stopped. Now she returned and still has her BB. In my opinion once someone has earned his BB he should be allowed to wear it even when he stops training or slacks of or something because he did prove that he was capable of what is required. In the end it should be everyones own problem if they want to wear a BB and then get beaten by a 3 Kyu or something Cheers
  7. Hi guys This talk about junior Dans is quite interesting Well my personal thought is that if your sensei is a qualified and good sensei he will know when you are far enough to do your Dan. I also find it ok if you have a differentiation between a junior Dan and an adult Dan. But still I think it isn't always good to get your Dan at a young age. I got mine at age 16 so I'm already a first Dan for 3 years. But still it's like you say when you get your Dan you begin with Karate. A Dan for me shows that you know the basic techniques and you can now start on focusing to increase the techniques get a better understanding of these and so on. That is also the reason why I think it is too early for young children like age 12-14 and younger to already be black belt. Also a BB should be someone who can explain to the lower belts how something works. Well I don't really think that there are (m)any kids who could do that despite their BB. Another negative part of a BB at such a young age is like another user mentioned that it can start to stick to their head. Like: "I'm Dan, I'm the best"...) If you start thinking that way you stop to progress. Still JBB have something good in a way that they motivate kids to keep on training because especially kids that age don't have that much motivation if they don't see a progress. Although giving a BB to a 10 year old is too early in my opinion Cheers T3chnopsycho
  8. Hi Guys My name's Leandro and I come from Switzerland. Well some stuff to myself: I'm 19 years old (1993). I'm doing an apprenticeship as an IT-Software engineer. I live at home with my family (Parents and Brother) Well to my freetime: I do Karate (Kimura Shukokai Karate International) for well something around 10 years or so. I currently have the first Dan. Apart from that I'm also a Scout leader where I lead a group of young boys (ages 6-11). I also do rifle-shooting in our local association and like to go snowboarding during the winter. I found this forum over google and read some interesting atricles so I thought I'll just sign up and maybe post something ^^ Well that's all to me now. If you have any questions just ask Cheers T3chnopsycho
