I do Shotokan for 5 years now (almost ), and I love it, too. I'm at my blue belt now and I'm slowly but safely getting ready for the next step .

Hmm... it's no big deal, sure, but I just wanted to know which one's correct. I guess both of them are . Thank you.

Hi... I saw pretty much threads about this, but I never saw anything posted by somebody this young, so here we go. I'm 15.5 years old, 161cm tall and 79kg in weight (well, at least I was the last time I was measuring it). My BMI index is 30.5, and that worries me much. I have asthma, and the overweight adds to my breathing problems. I calculated I should take at least 10 kilograms off, but I don't know the best method for that... I heard that diets aren't so effective and healthy. I work out regularly and do Shotokan, but that doesn't seem to help. I try to eat less sweets and more healthier food. I am in the gym for a few months now and just started training Karate again... Any more advice? Thanks!

As I told a few times, I trained Shotokan for 4.5 years, and after a one-year pause, I started training again, but in a different karate club. Now, there's one thing that bothers me. Before, we stepped into Zenkutsu-dachi with the right foot to the back. Now, the sensei teaches us we should step with our left right to the front. I hope you know what I'm talking about (the step from Yoyi-dachi to Zenkutsu-dachi). What's correct? Thanks.

I train Shotokan for more than 5 years now (I had a one-year pause because of an injury)... It just became my way of life... I was so nervous while I didn't train, and I constantly thought about that. I learned many stuff on the trainings, from self-control and self-defense to meditation and relaxation. I probably should try other MA, but I also have school with that so I wouldn't have the time. I love this MA .

Hm, sorry, my English isn't perfect, what does "damp" mean? Thank you for the advice... I am working out in the gym as much as I can, specially the hand-strengthening excercises.

Yes, I planned on doing that, I just have to catch a bit of time... Thanks for the advice .

My specialist told me that I shouldn't train any martial arts. I was at my first training after 1 year yesterday and everything seemed fine. I didn't put much strain on my hand, didn't do push-ups, etc. but I managed to do the technics without any pain. Now, I saw one of the best specialists around and he told me I shouldn't train any MA. He didn't say ANYTHING about other sports. That's what made me mad. Because I didn't injure myself while training karate, but while playing basketball. I'll try to train a few more times and if I see that my hand hurts, I'll stop. But, if everything's okay, I'll continue to train.

Well, my doc told me to stop training MA until I am 18. I am 15.5 now. I CAN'T do that. I must train karate or any other martial art. I told my parents and they told me it's my decision. I'll try to use my left hand as less as possible. I know I can regret it and that it can lead to many other consequences, but it's stronger than me. I trained it for 4.5 years and I loved it so much. Thank you for your time. I will take any more advice you have for me. I will see my doc before I use any supporters, of course.¸ Heh, BTW, I was at the specialist's. He told me that I shouldn't train any MA, but he also told me I should train sth as long as I don't put much strain on my arm.

Yup, the doctor told me I have to practice the muscles, and I do. I go to the gym regularly (at least 3 times a week) and practice my arm muscles with care.

Thanks... It helped a lot. cya

I studied (and will study again soon) Shotokan, and I was present on a few Kenpo trainings, too, but never studied it.

I trained karate for 4.5 years and have a blue belt. It was all going pretty well for me until one day when we played basketball as a warm-up... I lifted my arm really quick and my bone skipped the shoulder joint. I didn't pay much attention on that until it happened again... Then I visited the doctor, and it happened a few times again, but it didn't happen in the last few months. Now I'm planning to start training again, but of course without any big stress on my left hand. I was wondering if someone had a similar experience and can help me to protect myself from injuries. I tried to find something what would help me to keep the bone in place (you know those things you have for the elbow, ankle, etc.) but I couldn't find anything for the shoulder. One guy told me that a company Rheband from Sweden makes these things and that they're pretty expensive, but they work. If there's anyone from Sweden, I'd apprecieate some info about this company, too. BTW, if it helps, I'm 15 and a half years old. Thank you, Nikola
