White Belt

White Belt (1/10)

  1. Yes, I'd like to see the basic 20 forms for ki bon hyung, the ones I find on the web include kicks, but our school doesn't do kicks in the first 20 for yellow belt.
  2. This is no McDojo. Students spend 5 years on a black belt. The instructor trains DEA agents, and is a police academy instructor, and he comes highly recommended. He knows his stuff. He teaches classes along with his staff. I'm not even sure that I understand the whole McDojo thing, anyway. The black belts at this school have attained a level of skill, fitness and ability that is beyond whatever I thought I'd aspire to. I'm sure there are martial artists who are better, but I don't aspire to be a world class competitor. My thought is perhaps these are belts that were earned elsewhere since they are not on the wall? For example, if you have a black belt with a red stripe in it earned elsewhere, can you wear it if you transfer to a new school? I suppose I could ask other folks these questions but I'm new there and don't want to look like I care about the belts. I focus on training.
  3. Where I train, all the belts are on display on the wall. I notice above white belt is a solid yellow. Yet I see fellow students with solid yellow belts as well as yellow belts with a solid black horizontal stripe running the length of it. I have also seen white belts with a yellow stripe. What are these? Which is yellow, and which is high yellow? Thanks!
  4. Last night I practiced falls, rolls and tumbles for the first time. During the practice I began feeling nauseous (I didn't let on, though, and finished the practice). I had eaten a garlic pasta dinner only an hour before. But today at noon my stomach still feels funny...is this normal, do rolls take that much of a toll? I'm a normal, healthy fellow with no medical problems and take no medication.
  5. How did you find this out? How does one check on this?
  6. Regarding starting too late.....In 10 years you will be 30, you can be 30 with a black belt, or 30 wishing you had started when you were 20!
  7. Hi, I have just joined a school. I picked TKD because I studied it in college and also because this school is five minutes from my house. Yes, there are some young black belts there, but the owner/instructor is highly recommended, has commendations from U.S. Marshals and State police training divisions. I like the culture and staff and other members, and they have been there for several years. According to the staff, it is 4-5 years to attain black belt. That seems demanding enough for me. I want to train for fitness, confidence, and goal-setting. Anything else I should look for in this school? How can I check them out further, then? Thanks!
