  1. How old are you?
  2. Wow, competing should be a personal preference but you will feel good about yourself after if you try the best you can. People make excuses because of fear and injuries but if you can walk and throw a punch or swing a weapon around you should support your dojo and do the best YOU can. Don't worry about what everyone else thinks. If you live life like that, you will get no where. If you are training in the dojo, why not do it at a tournament. You aren't sparring so it takes out the "getting hurt by someone else" factor.
  3. Use the appropriate use of force necessary to stop the threat. That's how we as Police Officers and Martial Artists train. Do whatever is necessary to stop the threat. If you live in a bad neighborhood, MOVE. An important rule Martial Artists follow is to try and avoid situations where you put yourself at risk. Living in an area of violence, etc... doesn't help.
  4. We try not to as Instructors to keep it professional. We would bow or say OSU instead of hugging.
  5. TRY PIVOTING the leg you are standing on 180 degrees, that can help.
