  1. soak the gi in hot water as soon as you buy it.However if you have already bought one, wash it a few times in the washing machine with hot water and it should shrink. Also next time, try warrior meijin gold .. very durable and good brand....
  2. Hi guys, Can anyone post links or tell how I can get hold of the deadly arts episodes that were hosted by Josette Normandeau ?? There are a few episodes but they are in Spanish or French on youtube...same with Kill Arman episodes as well..... Thanks in advance

  5. think about hikate....think about your pulling hand with respect to punches and when your kicking think about trying to get your leg back faster to your basic stance than kicking....
  6. buy a heavy Gi. The Gi talks to its owner. When your doing your techniques eg your punches, the Gi will make a rustling sound when your hikate hand comes back and the zuki hand will make a snapping sound. This will tell you that your punches are moving in a straight line and close to your body.So as I said before your Gi will talk to you.

  14. Hi Martial , Just a suggestion. Before doing Geksai katas..it might be a good idea to take a look at Taikyoku Jodan Uke, Chudan Uke & Gedan Uke, Khake uke and Mawashi uke katas. These katas will give you an idea of the basics, movements and the H pattern of Goju... This way you will be more efficient, appreciate and learn the higher katas faster.....
  15. Try any books/DVD's goju ryu(okinawan) - morio higaonna, chojun miyagi and goju kai(japanese)- gogen yamaguchi, goshi yamaguchi, ingo de jong. Goju ryu and Goju kai are almost identical. All katas and syllabus is identical except that in Japan it was called Gojukai
  16. Main goal while doing a Mae geri is to keep your trunk or center stable.Positioning of your leg should be such that your body is stable and your not leaning backwards or to your sides as this will take away from the kimae of the kick.I find that keeping your leg slightly pointing outwards helps me get more stability and a slight bend in the knee will help you use your hips more. But everyone's center of mass and body is different so as do whatever is comfortable for you....hope that helps....
  17. Hi guys, Could you suggest any good dvds/books to get on jiyu kumite? Thanks in advance!!!
  18. One problem with full contact is that both of you will be more concerned with defence which is not conducive to you trying out different techniques that you learn during training. Some contact is good to get a feel of how it feel to hit and get hit however, sparring is more to ensure that you try all the techniques effectively and your movements, positioning is fluid.....
  19. Hi guys, I just wondering how you guys spar at your dojo? To elaborate, what intensity do you spar with? The dojo that I train at currently, we do one step sparring most of the time with semi contact. The school of thought at our dojo is that when you spar hard, your scared of getting hit and are more defensive and as a result you don't try all the techniques. The dilemma that I am facing is that some guys at the dojo don't actually understand the principle behind it and start sparring hard which results in a stand off where both of us are more concerned with defence and dont try any techniques. But on the other hand isnt it good to spar with intensity as that will help you learn to defend attacks that are close to what you might face in real life? Basically how do I become good at sparring...... Thanks
  20. We did a class on various blocks such gedan uke, khake uke, soto uke etc that can be used against knife attacks. In your opinion what is the most efficient and safest block against knife attacks? Cheers
