Mayur replied to yireses's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
There are. |Mayur| -
misinformation is a dangerous thing Sorry, could'nt resist |Mayur|

The only problem I see is with people who make wild assumptions about other arts without having the faintest idea of what they actually are, and when we try to reason with them they are ignorant, in the meantime the people who browse the forums usually get the wrong idea about the arts.... A good discussion is one thing but ignorance is something way out of hand.... |Mayur|

I think this forum is being torn to shreds because of comparisions....... |Mayur|

You join martial arts, you can take care of that weight though there will be problems doing the basics in the beginning, you will become as fit as you had never imagined |Mayur|

Are weekend Martial Arts Camps worth going to???
Mayur replied to Dekan's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
If you got the time, go for it I would'nt miss it |Mayur| -
It all depends on the range, if a good striker is able to keep the distance using footwork then the striker would win, if the BJJ guy uses footwork and gets close enuff then he can win at his game ie grappling. If you are just a striker then you are in trouble if someone manages to close the gap If you are just a grappler then you would have trouble grappling with 2 opponents for which I would rather consider striking as a better srategy Conclusion - Both are essential, niether is useless, neither should one be neglected under the false impression of the UFC or Bruce Lee who was more of a striker |Mayur|

No you simply can't compare striking and grappling 'cause they are meant for two completely different things The thing which I meant was if I was to train for self defence and I had to choose only ONE thing ie striking or grappling, I would go for striking |Mayur|
-
If I had to choose only one thing then I'd rather be a striker than a wrestler on the street |Mayur|

Yes it is if the other person is more alert will likely finish off the other one before he can realise it, in other words it's awareness training. You can spend years to learn how to kick or punch but they are of no use if you don't have good awareness Overall I'd prefer full contact over point sparring but point sparring does have it's place, in my school we spar for points but it's still full contact only that elbows are not allowed, but low kicks, punches to the face etc are allowed, and it's not semi contact. |Mayur|

This article states the advantages of point fighting, mind you the article states that it highlights only the advantages http://www.martialartsplanet.com/sections.php?op=viewarticle&artid=106 BTW, point fighting does'nt neccessarily mean semi contact, low kicks are still allowed, full power is allowed but I would agree that elbows are not allowed in most point fighting tourneys. |Mayur|

MTfighter, before debating with you, I'd like to ask you the reason for which you created this thread, what do you see in preaching to everyone, if you tell me why then I might want to debate this with you BTW, I can make my own web page on members.aol.com and say that muay this is crap, does that mean it is? |Mayur|

Why don't we stick with facts instead of science? Science bores me Facts are many martial artists including my own school have been conditioning for ages and they don't have any problems |Mayur|

How to Start Trouble in a Martial Art Forum

There should be multiple choices so I did'nt vote, anyway here's my opinions - 1. Post that one style is better than all others 2. Post that a certain style is totally ineffective for self defense 3. Post that traditional martial art methods are outdated 4. Post that no one should be a black belt under the age of 18 These are the most horrible posts anyone could come up with however I don't see a problem with these - 1. Ask a question that has been asked more than a dozen times before Why - They are just newbies or don't know search or how to look in the archives and new members will too get a chance to reply 2. Post with poor grammar especially when it come to spelling martial art styles or terms Why - Not everyone studies at a high fi university, what about someone who speaks a different language and is not familiar with english. EG - Bruce Lee 3. Posting the question "what is the best martial art?" Why - Newbies post these, it's not right to blame them for it, they are simply requesting to be educated |Mayur| -
First do knuckle push ups with only the knuckles of your middle finger and forefinger, continue doing this for about 2 months, then work on the heavy bag, first use 70% sand and 30% sawdust [wood] then gradually go to all sand, for even more methods I'd suggest an instructor, before battering yourself in a concrete wall |Mayur|
