Orange Belt

Orange Belt (3/10)

  1. karatekid1975 We have a student who does the same thing with forms. He can walk, but can't kick due to total hip replacement. I had knee surgery in June, and still have lots of trouble with it. Currently it takes about 2 weeks to recover from 1 class, so i am on a hiatus from class right now. It annoys me.
  2. tkdgirl30616 Did you attend the seminar on ADHD Mr. Wiley Robinson gave at Black Belt Camp this summer? He focused on that. He has a lot of medical knowledge on it and has it. If you missed the seminar, ask Mr. Newton about it, they were going to make a print version of it available to the instructors. As far as disabilities, do bad knees count?
  3. Look at them very sympathetically and say "I'm sorry". They will usually ask, "What for?". You respond "This". Then knock them around. I even had my instructor grinning when I did this to a friend of mine.
  4. Very few questions are dumb, and this is not a dumb one. 1. wash uniform after every workout 2. wash uniform in cold water (prevents shrinking) 3. do not dry in the dryer 4. do not use chlorine bleach (will make yellow) 5. pretreat problem spots (under arms) Number 5 is important. Sweat and deodorant tend to collect here (especially for guys). By the time you see the stain, it's too late to fix. There are pretreaters in stores made just for sweat/deodorant stains, use them. Hope this is helpful!
  5. Wow . Your style only has 5 katas to BB. Just curious, how many movements in these katas? I am not being condecending, just wanted to know.
  6. Yes, I have. Perhaps this shows we should use our art in defense, not to dominate. Never, I am a sponge. More info and opinions please. I don't think I am going to find a black & white answer, but with many other people's thoughts, I can form my own opinion. We do occasionally practise forms on the opposite side, but most of our forms up to black belt are symmetrical.
  7. Any time Cyberclown. This is why I learn something from everyone I train with; old, young, large, small, white belt or black belt. Every person has something to teach me, and I love to learn.
  8. Noticed a pattern the other day. Up to my current rank, all the forms I have learned have begun with a movement to the left or with the left hand or foot. Asked my Instructor, and instead of just telling me the answer, he told me to research it... learn more that way. Searched the web, best I could find is the superstition that it's lucky to enter a house left foot first, and in Islam, you are supposed to enter the house of worship left foot first. Anybody have any ideas?
  9. Being overweight, I can tell you, it's not a matter of stiffness. It's a matter of fat. The fat is between your chest and your legs. With your legs together and straight in front of you, you feel no stretch. It's just squishing fat. The muscles are no where near their maximum flexibility. So, I have found stretches on the floor best done legs out in a V, for me .
  10. No, the contract is paid on a month to month basis. If you are unable to continue for one of the allowed reasons, then your payments stop then. I guess if you paid in full before the contract year and this happened, then it would be.
  11. 'Bisquick Pancake Mix'. Don't know if they carry that brand in London.
  12. My instructor offers an 8 week introductory offer that includes 1 uniform. This lets them get the feel for it and see if it's something they want to do. Then if it's for you, you sign a one year or two year contract. The contract can be broken for medical reasons or if you move.
  13. Ahhh. Should you have the blueberry pancakes, the strawberry pancakes or the plain pancakes. As with food, it's a personal decision. What are you looking to gain from the martial art? What are your goals? How old are you? Do you want a martial sport (one that leans towards competition) or a martial art (one that tends to place more emphasis on the history and tradition)? Personally being a Taekwondo artist, I couldn't think of picking another style now . But answer these questions and we may be able to better help you. And personally, I like blueberry pancakes .
  14. Your welcome, glad I could help
