  2. thank you!! And I wouldn't be able to say, Imma newbie at all this sadly
  3. Kinda! The way I was taught to do it was a bit different, but that's the general idea
  4. very true. agh, I'll just going to have to keep at it!
  5. Haha it's a submission hold in BJJ, there might be another name for it, but that's what they call it at the dojo I go to. It's a hold you can go to if someone has mounted you, you use their own arm to choke them, then flip them over so you are in mount. You have to be able to sweep your bottom leg out fast though so you don't land on it... and... I kinda wasn't fast enough that time
  6. I just passed my yellow belt test this past wednesday- I was SO nervous. It was very physically challenging, and I was and still am quite sore lol. I trained a lot before hand to be sure I was ready, but as a perfectionist I still felt unprepared. Even after the test I still felt like I should have done better -_-
  7. awesome- I've been icing it and putting on this stuff my mom has called cayenne healing ointment and it feels much better today hopefully it heals all the way soon! I can't stand down time! lol thank you!
  8. The Karate Kid. Even though it' not at all like the style I'm learning lol. Who doesn't love Mr. Miyagi?
  9. So I'm not sure where it came from, but it DOESN'T feel too good! I think it might be from BJJ.... I have this knot in my left calf muscle, about halfway up and towards the outside. I think it might have happened when I was attempting a gift wrap and I didn't kick my bottom leg out fast enough and it got trapped under the weight of my opponent- hence the injury. Is there something I should do to help this recover? Ice or heat? I really want to keep training and working out- I can't stand not doing anything! But I don't want to seriously hurt something. I can walk on it, but going upstairs and putting pressure on it hurt.
  10. I need to work on armbars and submissions. I know how to get to side control, but then my lack of submissions kills me. I also need to work on scissor sweeps and butterfly guard!
  11. I just joined KF and I already LOVE it. Martial arts is my passion and I can't get enough! I was so happy to find a community of martial artists who can share their knowledge with me and help me on this journey. I hope someday I will be able to give back and share once I have more experience.
  12. And you guys were right, the best way to get out of side control is not to be there I tried really hard to keep a good base, so side control didn't happen very often. Now I just need to reach that goal of 10,000 reps! lol
  13. I went for about 2 hours last night- we had open mat. And needless to say, I feel much more confident
  14. thanks so much tallgeese, that was really helpful. I've been trying to get in a lot of practice As long as I know what to practice, I'll feel much better!!
  15. I was mostly afraid I wasn't up to par with where I should be, but it's just experience that's lacking, I think I can fix that as time goes on. I was afraid I was lagging behind
  16. Sounds like a plan so mostly it's just speed I need to work on? And recovery?
  17. At my school, it goes: White (1st stripe, 2nd stripe, 3rd stripe) Yellow (1st stripe, 2nd stripe, 3rd stripe) Orange (1st stripe, 2nd stripe, 3rd stripe) Purple (1st stripe, 2nd stripe, 3rd stripe) Blue Green Red Red with black stripe Brown Brown with black stripe Black I'm actually not sure if the stripes continue all the way after purple.
  18. I try and incorporate some of the workout stuff we do during my classes for home workouts to improve on what I know I will be doing. I also try to do alot of shadowboxing (I don't have a bag ) as opposed to running or biking or something, because I'm a firm believer in training for what you will be doing. Although running and such can be good workouts, the way I see it you might as well spend that exact same time practicing your stuff- and if you're working hard, you'll get just as good a workout
  19. ....Story of my life I usually feel like an idiot, because within 2 seconds, I'm squashed. lol.
  20. So last night I tested for yellow... and I am now a yellow belt however, near the end of testing, all the testers were required to work on side control escape for Braziljiuian jiu jitsu. It was kinda a continuous thing, once you escaped, someone else would come get you in side control and you would have to do it again. It went pretty well, but when one of our instructors (he's learning to be an instructor, so he still does alot of hands on stuff with us) had me in side control, I was stuck. He's really good at BJJ and a blue belt, so I guess I shouldn't feel too bad about it, but still :/ I felt like I was just muscling it and not using technique. Anybody know any side control escapes??? I know this one where you bump, shrimp, and then get them in guard, but I need to know more I'm a girl, and I'm pretty muscular, but I'm still probably gonna be the weakest one when I move up into the adult class tonight... and tonight is BJJ. I'm scared. Help!
  21. I passed!!!! Now I get to go to the adult class too!! Yay!
  22. Variety! Especially with the proteins, too much of anything is never good- just like a few others have mentioned, moderation. I personally keep it low on dairy products (ice cream, cheese, milk, etc.), breads (bread, pasta, crackers, granola, etc.) and- the hardest one- sugar Lots of fluids too! I'm always low on water- dehydration... yuck. Staying hydrated is so key. And sleep is very important for me as well. Early to bed, early to rise!
  23. LittleW, thank you ugh I'm just so passionate about it! lol
