  1. I've noticed this too in my relatively short time training. We may get several new students at the beginning of a year, but only a few will stick around. How hard was the guy hit? Six months... That just boggles. Similar to what Dobbersky mentioned we also do push-ups if people don't seem to be taking things seriously or if a cell phone rings during class.
  2. I have P90X and rather like it, but there are definitely good alternatives out there. It depends what you're after. For me, having everything pre-arranged meant a great deal of time saved for me. The nutrition book for the meals, the work outs being laid out, and three different ways to approach the 90 day program with the ability to mix it with other programs. It is over priced, I agree, but it's very convenient. Anyway, that aside, lately I've also been doing cardio in my back yard. I take water and some salt out with me (to replenish what's lost in sweat). I then train karate in the sun for about an hour. Lots of kata for cardio, jumping jacks, repeating kicks to practice form and balance, and so on. Plus I can use the tan. I also go on walks with my mother a few times a week, but that's not so much exercise for me..
  3. Wow, that's quite the difference. Congrats on finding a better school. I count myself very lucky in this area. I live in a small town and we only have two options, and the dojo that I go to is pretty good. I would be up a creek if they're were both bad..
  4. I'm casual about getting back to forums so I'm sure that this is a pretty late reply, but thanks for the welcomes.
  5. Just a quick hello to get the official greeting out of the way. I'm not the type to post very often, but I do enjoy reading quite a bit. Quick info: Shito-Ryu Genbu-Kai Recent green belt - just enough to confuse myself I started at our university's 'karate club' and I've been practicing for roughly one year now, give or take.
