  1. When my instructor has us go up and down the floor doing kick combinations in the air how far are you suppose to kick? My instructor told me when I first started to go slow, but as I got use to it I could kick the air as hard as I could. He always talks about snapping your kicks. So I have been doing this for a few months and have started developing knee pain. Any one have any suggestions on how far they kick, when kicking the air. Do you go all the way or stop short?
  2. Haven't been on the forum for a while. We did start to spar about a month or so after I posted this thread. In my school the instructor allows us to use full contact except no punches to the face. We are allowed contact to the head with a kicks, but with my height 5 7 and everyone else in my class is close to 6 foot and taller that does not happen too often. lol After my first sparring session I was happy that we waited that long to spar since I realized how important to have every single basic technique down before you spar.

    Hip Pain?

have been taking karate classes for about a month now. When I get home from class and I go to practice side kicks I get a pretty bad pain in my hip. During class and when I am warmed up I don't seem to get any pain. Is this a normal pain under my circumstances? I am not too old either (24 years old).

  6. I have been taking TSD classes for about a month now, I really enjoy it but the only thing I dont like is there hasn't been one sparring session this whole month. I understand that even if there was a session I probally should not spar bc I have only taken classes for a month, but in the future I would really like to spar. Are most TSD classes with limited contact? I know I am probally sounding way too ambitious but I am 24 and wanted to take a form of martial arts that has some physical components to it, before I get too old and lose that motavation. Basically I am asking if I choosed the wrong type of martial arts?
