  1. I like george dillmans books, and judo gene lebell, his books are good too. My favorite is farmer burns wrestling great read.
  2. I've been around grappling for a while and i like the guard because you can control a person and at the same time set them up for armbars, triangles, and the best thing is man its just plain out fun to practice.
  3. I think if you like to fight i think it is a great ideal .Good conditioning Great skills reflexes the whole thing. And its good to be in shape. Find a good school to help you and go for it . Let us know how it is going from time to time.
  4. If a person gets hit in the right spot hard enough then blood clots can happen, a doctor will either operate or give you meds to deal with this ailment. I did boxing for 3 years and i learned alot about blunt force. I dont really want to say a whole lot about this because, if i talk about location i am afraid someone would try it to see, and this is something that i think should be taught in a class with a few students so the info isn't lost.
  5. You have to know how to use tai chi to win and if he did not know how to use it he would have lost. In our generation we saw gracies take on so called great fighters and destroy them in a heart beat, made it look like they did not know how to fight at all . One, they developed there skill while fighting. So when they put there fighter in the ring, he did not have to be the best in there family, just better than all the fighters in the octagon. So i stand on my statement ,and i would add yang luchan was a peasant, and he had already studied other arts before he studied with the chen family and this is probably one of the reasons why his tai chi looks so different from the chen style.
  6. When i was teaching we went and got yellow magic markers and white shirts at the good will store on a saturday because that is when a long white sleeved shirt would be about 35 cents and we put on eye protection and went at it . I got cut every time and my students got cut . I had people come in and tell me they could take away the knife and i would have someone who had not been doing it very long do it and marks on the shirts dont lie . This also helped my students and i get better with a knife. It wasn't if we got cut, it was whether we survived being cut or stabbed, and there is a difference , plus the location of the cut or stab will surely make a difference.
  7. Masahiko Kimura- Yang luchan -yip man -farmer burns. Not do i find them great but, i find there lives interesting, unique.
  8. The effects of this type of training i think will be seen later. There's developement in these young people that has not happened and will not happen . Who will be there to tell these children to stop hitting the other kid who pushed them. The child is on the ground he hits the other child as hard as he can 2 strikes and he is out but the child keeps striking. Dont worry because he has been trained he will know how to put all his force in to the strikes and the other child who pushed him im sure he will be fine. The effects after that will been seen . I think the training would be good but use gear and dont let them just kill each other. I see a lack of maturity with the ability to do great damage. Dont fear weakness fear being all powerful without control.
  9. I personally think that this type of thing should be taught to a hand full of people so that the info is not lost. I would not want this used on someone to see if it works. This is like grappling there are a whole lot of neck cranks that can kill a person but nobody will use it in a match . But we know that it can kill . If we did use a move like this we would release them when they tap, why take the risk.
  10. The funny thing about forms is it is like the finger print of the person who put it together, so when you learn them you are trying to think like the person who put it together. If the person who did the form did not like kicking then it might be mostly hands . Forms come in sets alot of times . tae kwon do the 3 kicho's, karate the 3 tekki's and so on and if you look at the form you are doing then you will see this finger print . But it really helps to have someone who knows what they do.
  11. I practice tai chi long form yang and we link all the moves together and it is like a giant kata. If you loose your train of thought then we start over. The movements when done for what they really do are really dangerous . Yang lu chan was considered a great fighter, and it wasn't because he pushed people down , He used the form on them and they didn't get up.
  12. unfortunally this art is about killing it has nothing to do with self-defense political assaination spying and nerve striking is just one part of it . Strikes to certain areas or pressure points also produce blood clots and nasty infections of the blood and circulation problems. If you dont see it coming and they are expert it won't matter anyway.
  13. It's to bad some people dont like forms, they are sometimes hard to remember. I would try to remember what they do, and that would make it alot easier. If your teacher actually knows what they do then it is easy to remember when he teaches them ,but if not then we learn a lot of things not needed and we can say whats the use.
  14. In my school we never had a problem with grappling and I would have my students grapple and this was way before the craze for bjj. One of my students learned bjj and started teaching half way thru my class bjj . Also because i had learned more of a cacc style I had him teach me the names of the moves and the way they applied them . i say this if you don't have a ground game do yourself, and your students a favor, get a ground game .
  15. This is one of the reasons i left organized martial arts, 8 year old black belts and organizations that want there money, and wanting us to send them out in the street thinking they can fight. Im glad i trained my students to fight and not be parrots who can repeat a movement, I sleep at night .
  16. Would farmer burns be considered because he put together a grappling system and sold it accross the US . I think these people like him made a name like him in grappling , or possibly judo gene lebelle. No holds barred is a very old term and i think that farmer burns was a genius and his wrestling books are great reading.
  17. Some people say that there are appr. 30 some places on the body that one strike will cause knockout or even death. I wonder if if you cut the body in half could a person say there is really only 15 places.
  18. Hi im new to the forum and ive been into the arts since high school and the way that i step in a form is the easiest way to put pressure into the move , and if this is true then why do we practice form and we dont really use it like that in a fight .
  19. I've done tai chi appr. 22 years and it has a wide range of weapons and is really fun to do. I use fans broad sword and double edge sword and staff. I really love the art and im near 50 now and my mobility is like when i was in my 20's.
  20. Hi im new to the forum ,on this dim mak thing dont most forms use two hands at a time . then it is possible to put someone in a position and hit them with a certain type of strike and death could occur.
  21. Hi im new to the forum and i really like tai chi .
