  1. I will check that out Iknow this isnt my topic but could I get a few opinions on who makes the nicest GIs because I found the belt I want but later I want to upgrade to a nicer Gi
  2. Cant train in white Gis Do they have any black Gis
  3. Thank you guys for your input very helpful
  4. I don't think those guys are posers. They spend lots of time training...after all, that's how they make their living. The talk and the intimidation is also a psychological part of the competitions. Yeah, they talk, and they act tough, but its also part of the entertainment aspect of it. Not everyone likes it, but its part of it. I mean the kids at my school that wear tapout shirts like they know what real fighting not an actual UFC fighter.Hey, I wear Kansas City Chiefs t-shirts, but have never been invited to training camp What I mean by this is that entities like the UFC have taken the world of Martial Arts and marketed it like it never has been before. Now the layman takes an interest in Martial Arts, picks a fighter or stable of fighters that he likes, and can by merchandise that reflect those preferences. Its not unlike me buying KC Chiefs gear, since I am only the biggest ever KC Chiefs fan (ok, maybe an exaggeration there...I'm not THAT big....) but I think you can see my point. I am not arguing and I see your point I just dont like the guys that wear the tapout shirts like they are all tough but they dont know how to fight because there is someone always bigger and better than you idk humbleness and respect is just a big part of my character so its just weird to see these kids at my school who I know couldnt compete at the level of a UFC fighter but act like they can
  5. Very wise words this may seem a little far off but I only being 15 see myself doing that a lot saying it doesnt matter to me but deep down it really does matter and I think that is the main reason people give up on things, because they run into a significant barrier and say well I never cared as an excuse, I told my parents that a lot when I quit tang soo do but I did really care so with that said I encourage any teens or kids to persevere to accomplish positive things even if it takes sacrifice By the way sorry about all the rabbit trails I get onto haha
  6. This nhas probably already been said but I think it is all in what style, we were training in boxing the other day instead of taijustus and we lifte our heel but in taijustsu we almost never lift the heel
  7. Quick question though, you cant order on the site so do you need to order via e-mail?

  12. I like this idea, im sure some schools probably do it too I hear this arguement a lot, so lets toy with it a while. How will the test be different? Is the curriculum different for the under-aged jr black belt? If not, then I take issue with it. "Sorry, kid, but you're just not old enough to be a 'real' black belt. So what we'll do is wait until you turn 16, and you can do that jr black belt test all over again, and then, you will be a 'real' black belt. How does that sound?" I think that sounds like an instructor working a student over for more testing fees. And even if one doesn't charge testing fees, what has really been accomplished here. Its like the driving restrictions they put on kids when they start getting their license. Most of the time, the restrictions are just foolish. I am not arguing i just think that most kids that train for their black belt dont even know the material as good as they should but i think that if a student can perform their stuff correctly then i totally agree with! why would someone hold a kid back from being a black belt just because they are a kid, yes they may not be very powerful with their moves but the bottom line is they know it.
  13. thank you for your help i think my decision now is what color embroidery for a green belt
  14. No offense to your teacher, but that makes very little sense. A kiai/kihap is just a forced exhalation of breath. It's mostly to help you get more power out of a technique, like the way power lifters or tennis players grunt. I don't think a loud grunt or yell is different in each language. Maybe you could elaborate a little bit more. I am not totally clear on what he told me i will check but the way i see it is that it is tradition so i do it, just cuz we do it in a dojo doesnt mean we will do it in a real fight and srry for not being more specific haha
  15. The way i was taught is that every kiai has a different sort of meaning in japanese like instead of yelling a normal american expression when we strike we yell ta kia because its a different language means different things
  16. I assume you mean, using your arms to accomplish the choke. Is that correct? Yep
  17. Thank you and I am for sure getting an eosinpanther belt now even though people say since eosin is american it isnt as good as tokaido or shureido well if you go to the tokaido site you will notice that the stitching on the belt goes over the embroidery so eosin is far superioir to tokaido from what i have seen
  18. Taijustu two months train in a week or two for 9th kyu
  19. friend here! nick 15
  20. I hear you. Maybe one day, not before to long, the yellow belt, or something close to it, will be the new black belt. Well i just dont like to complain a lot about stuff but its nice to see that people on this forum are understanding about traditional MA

  24. David didnt beat Goliath with muscle to muscle, he had a long distance weapon. What id Goliath had a bow and arrow, thus having better distance than david? It was like a BB gun and a musket. No comparison upon man verese man. the btter weapon is how David won along with Goliath's complacency. warriors carried spears he couldve thrown that but i kno i sound like a broken record but every joint lock choke or throw usually starts off with a palm strike to the chin a punch to the solar plexus something like my uke is much stronger than i am but if i strike him hard enough he has no choice but to go into a lock
