The Filipino style, Kadena de Mano does a lot of knife training. There are many different styles of Eskrima, many of which offer extensive knife drilling and close combat drills. Thank you.

Hello all. I was thinking about a little bit about respect and martial arts a little bit, and thought it would be cool to discuss about what respect means to you. My school is not a strict school. Our teacher isn't the type who viciously gives out pushups and demands strict serious training. But when he looks serious about something people stop and listen. They respect him. I think one of the reasons is he respects us too. We don't bow at our class, but we do a small 'salute' to each other and say, "I give you respect, I mean you no harm." That way when my guard is down and he punches me in the head i know it wasn't meant to harm me but yeah... respect... post your thoughts and or stories.

I think a longer belt looks cooler But If was in a real fight I wouldn't want a long belt getting in my way.

Form night: 1pinan, 2 pinan, 1 kata, 2 kata, stature of the crane, and 3 pinan. then all again in the other order.... then all of them one more time. then find at least one defense application in 3 pinan and demonstrate it. I love how relaxed my body feels after a night of forms training.

Knife training clinics near Toronto?
Tzu-Logic replied to rhilllakefield's topic in Martial Arts Weapons
I second the Filipino martial arts for being incredibly practical when it comes to weapons training. Learn stick fighting and you won't worry about people with knives as much. Or if you are really worried about being attacked I suggest studying the arts of 'click-pow' or 'glock-fu' -
Jiu Jitsu Vs Zombies
Tzu-Logic replied to JiuJitsuNation's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
I'll take a hummer thanks I think it that would be the only time i would ever drive one too. Too expensive for me in the real world. But in zombie apoclypse it's the perfect vehicle. -
Testing for my blue belt!!!
Tzu-Logic replied to GeoGiant's topic in Share Your Testing, Grading, or Promotion
Cool story! and congrats on your new rank. My school doesn't practice breaking, but it's something i would very much like to learn. -
This seems like the mathematical end to a lot of the principals of striking I've learned. I've learned a fluid style of striking that is about the momentum in your arms more than the force of your muscles. We are taught that "muscling through" the punches or techniques is not the proper way. The momentum behind a punch is more easily transfered when the arm is more relaxed and the muscles are not fighting each other. We train knocking over those big freestanding heavy bags with our punches and when you doing it right, and transfering all of your momentum into the target properly it feels effortless to knock it over. If you feel like your "pushing" then you probably aren't hitting it right... I guess I'm just trying to see your post in a way that relates to me. And I am posting it just see if I am on track here or not.

Yeah I'm so happy they brought it back to titletown I'm a true cheese-head here lol.... No one else at my dojo is really into football though... It's more of my work buddies that i talk about that with. but yeah it was a nailbiter. good comeback effort from the steelers. Packers defense was just on though. And that was without probowler woodson too. It was a heck of a football game.

Jiu Jitsu Vs Zombies
Tzu-Logic replied to JiuJitsuNation's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Tactical shotgun and Assault rifle. throw in a couple big knives strapped to my body and my eskrima sticks on my back, and I'm all set to ride it out. once i get going with my eskrima sticks it's zombie skull bashing time. My friend and I actually have survival plans in the case of any extreme events occuring. we aint going down without a fight! -
excuse me groinstrike, but I have never heard of using a snorkel while riding an excercise bike. does it somehow increase your lung capacity? what are the benefits of it? thank you.

Greetings fellow seekers of knowledge, I recently learned a couple of techniques that were based on the dragon, and snake styles.... This got me thinking, that I would be interested in knowing what is the martial art that came up with the animal styles? I actually learned these in a kempo class.... but the animal styles are a chinese martial art, right? thank you for sharing your knowledge with me.

Kellers Day 1 Back INTO Training Journal
Tzu-Logic replied to TKDKeller's topic in Health and Fitness
nice... I wish had your motivation... look forward to hearing about your progress. -
Greetings fellow seekers, I must confess to you all, I was overly zealous in my training. I punched the training dummy for too long, with too much force, without gloves on. I now have very nasty bruises on each my middle finger knuckles... Yikes! Two questions for you, my friends: 1. Any tips on how to get it to heal faster? 2. How long before I can start punching things again without fear of serious injury? Also please note I have a really nice pair of training gloves, but I didn't feel like wearing them because I like to feel the feedback on my hand.... Any advice on how to toughen up my knuckles to avoid brusies in the future? thank you all for your help

Wow what a great video! thanks for posting that.

We practice these at my school. For faster training your partner can wear thickly padded mma gloves or bag gloves to protect their hands. That way you can move at a more realistic speed (still not full speed though... )

Cannot spar effectively without serious aggression
Tzu-Logic replied to Kenny86's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I have felt aggression rise up inside before during sparring. I was sparring with a lower ranking person and he tagged me right in the face. Right after he hit me I charged in and completely dominated him, but I felt dirty afterwords because I had used my anger to make him feel silly. When I am sparring a lower belt that I can dominate easily I never want to humiliate them completely... I should have praised him for slipping one past me rather than get revenge. lessons learned.... -
How do you handle forward moving aggression?
Tzu-Logic replied to GeoGiant's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
We like to parry the punch step forward at a 45 degree angle and blow out their knee with a sidekick. if it's a wide swing we block parry the arm over and either shove, strike, or go for the knee with a kick again. Those are the some of the first techniques we learn at my school. -
that's deep man. So I earned my green belt last night. It was a long grueling test. I am very sore today, but I got my belt. The thing about tests at my school is that they are true tests. You will be pushed until you find your weaknesses. I do have more confidence just making it through the test to get green.

new students due to karate kid film
Tzu-Logic replied to shotokan-ste's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
We have recently had several new families join at school.... I didn't even think about the new movie bringing in more people. Its nice getting new people though. -
This thread was a great discussion to read through... a lot of well thought out responses. respect

Wow, thank you all for your wisdom. I truly appreciate you taking time to respond. I was really good friends with one of the black-belts, but he had to quit training for a while. He basically became my personal fighting coach... So without him there to test myself against its hard to tell if I am improving. I have notcied my teacher has been testing a lot more lately... He will ask me to show him a drill, and then he will start speeding up the drill and see how fast I can go before I start getting hit. our second degree blackbelt made a comment about my katas starting to flow together nicely... I know I am much faster and stronger than when I started. I think you guys are right and I need lots of friendly sparring to answer my questions. so anyone up for a round ??

Hello fellow seekers, I am going to be advancing to green belt very soon... When I was a white-belt I tried to imagine what I would feel like when i reached the level of green belt. (FYI: At my school green belt is an advanced students belt) I go to a very strongly self defense oriented school. I have not been in a fight since i started training (actually I have never really been in a fight) How do I know if I could protect myself in a real life situation? Do I ask my teacher to push me harder? Do i ask black belts to hit me hard when they practice with me? I need to develop more confidence in myself and the combat art I am learning. any suggestions my friends?
