Does your school have a website?

If you're not comfortable with it, maybe you could find a school that trains with face attacks but does not require you to damage your face doing lots of full-contact work.

Requirements Of Parents/Guests!
WireFrame replied to sensei8's topic in Instructors and School Owners
It's pretty relaxed where I train. We don't get many parents in (it's mostly adults) but with any guests their only "requirement" is to sit at the sidelines and watch. -
O_O you sure it wasn't the ball of the foot? Turning on your heel is a big no-no in most of shotokan as it can damage your knee. That kind of training is more for body conditioning, building strength and muscle memory etc. It's the building blocks. Do those particular movements enough and you'll have pretty damn solid leg muscles!

Color change on the horizon.

Bloody hell. I'm starting to think I should do more now... -
You've landed on your feet there mate, nice one.

Newbi question - bowing to your sensei
WireFrame replied to GeoGiant's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
We never bow outside the dojo, why would we? We DO however have the odd pint or two. Actually, even in the dojo, we bow to begin and end training, begin and end a partner session, and when any section or kata begins and ends... but never just as a "greeting". -
Welcome to the forum, Mark.

Welcome back Joey. Whatever you do MA is always the best route imo, glad you returned to show us relative newbies how you think.

That is pure talent.

Congrats on choosing a Gi, as for how you wear it it's entirely down to you. I roll my sleeves up to about mid-forarm legnth because I prefer it. You don't want the legs long enough to catch your heel during a kick or anything mind. Keep it practical.

Just enjoy it and see how you go. Welcome to the forum and to Shotokan by the way.

Are We, Martial Artists, Lopsided?
WireFrame replied to sensei8's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
That's why we do jiyu ippon kumite with both sides. Screws me up thinking about techniques on the "wrong" side though. -
Well I bought an external hard drive! Hitachi 1TB, very nice little aluminium enclosure. Only £62 off amazon, and it's just arrived! Time for a road test...

I had this conversation with someone once, they were trying to convince me to do a karate course with a major plus point being a segment on weapons training. I said well that's nice but I rarely have my full arsenal on me so there's no point. It was a joke, but the sentiment was this: Unless you're prepared to carry a weapon that may or may not be used against you and may hinder your case if you end up in court, I say work on unarmed combat.

I just hope it's not following the "More of the same but louder" school of sequel production.

conrad665, it's great that your working on physical control (good method too, I've used it myself), and when the trainer said this, just take it on board and not as a slight on you, because it shouldn't be. If he sees that you become aggrivated by just that then it'll take longer for him to treat you otherwise. If you just take it on board, agree, and get on with controlled sparring without giving the comment any negative reaction, the trainer will relax more.

Japanese Swords/Question

I'd look for an antique dealer if I were you, ideally interested in weapons or japanese items. -
Incident with my family present
WireFrame replied to joesteph's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I don't think anyone could've handled that situation in a better way. Nice one man. -
Ouch. I dislike Mae Geri and Mawashi Geri for the same reasons. Yoko Geri and Ushiro Geri on the other hand - lovely kicks!
