  1. Somthing i didnt realise till when showing my friend some kumite videos online is how much kicking is involved in karate and that a "Karate Chop" is a valid move and not a cliche.
  2. Yeah those two types are the most dangerous or at least the most likely to finish in confrontation. Your right with your point about the best self defence is avoidance especially with groups of people.
  3. In Scotland there are very few instances of gun crime although you never know whats going to happen and must prepare for every possible situation
  4. Drunk 18-20 year old males in nightclubs with a bit too much ego or feel thay have somthing to prove. Never seen any of them do someone any real damage though the bouncers in the places i go to keep a close eye.
  5. A good joint lock that allows you to control their movements would be best because... 1) You can disarm/deflate your opponent through the pain caused by the lock 2) Stop your opponent from getting at you again 3) Control where your opponent falls as you dont want people hitting their head on concrete as that could easily kill them and end up with you responsible for their death
  6. Just goes to show that you can never tell who you are confronting looks like the robber got his just deserts
  7. Hi Im 18 and have just started learning Shoto Budo Karate in North Glasgow, Scotland. I played Rugby for a long time in High School but hadnt done any exercise since i was about 15/16. I decided to learn Karate primarly to get in shape and lose weight (i weighed about 15 stone and still have stretch marks around the stomach area). To this end karate has been a success lost quite alot of weight since i started and feel much fitter. Furthermore, karate has helped grow my confidence and i would deffinately say that learning MA has changed my life for the better.
  8. I believe that fighting is the ultimate test of a Martial Art and the Martial Artist. In the rather hackneyed words of Bruce Li "Boards dont hit back". Quite often if you see a Martial Artist who dosn't know how to apply his art in a real situation he resorts to street fighting technique and not the skills he has developed in Martial Arts. A good Martial Art should be taught with the application in mind.
  9. Enter the Dragon Kill Bill vol 1 and 2 both have some amazing fight scenes Zatoichi Drunken Master
  10. some of the instructors in the video dont look too good but on the otherhand some of the takedowns/joint locks look affective

  12. Bruce Li was an inspiration when i was younger however recently ive been reading the teaching of Egami and other Japanese masters attempting to get a better grasp on the philosophy of karate
