White Belt

White Belt (1/10)

  1. I'd say go for it as well. There isn't any place near me that teaches Yudo, well that I know of. But it's experience and learning new things will be fun
  2. Nice. I like these from threadless http://twitter.threadless.com/product/1927/Life_would_be_easier_if_you_could_mark_people_as_spam http://twitter.threadless.com/product/1967/Tetris_Taught_Me_the_Fundamentals_of_Architecture
  3. Tired searching for it, couldn't find a video for you. Have you asked the school you train with? They may have or know where a video could be found or bought
  4. I can't remember who said it, but heard a saying to the affect of "a battle is won based upon how hard you train"
  5. never had a class where music was used during mediation. Only time was beginning of class while doing workouts.
  6. Have you tried talking to her? Probably just shy, no reason to get bent out of shape and not get passed the first technique. When I first starting at 8, I never was loud until years later. I was just shy, but some people don't do it, because they don't understand or see the connection. Try building her confidence, teach her a bit more, and a good workout usually helps
  7. Most Martial Arts suppliers have double wave judo gi that are durable and long lasting. Is there any Judo schools around or online near you? Easiest way of getting one.
  8. A Black Belt isn't... - an excuse to slow down training - telling others you're a master - the end - a absolute right to start teaching - not a excuse not to train with lower ranks - being embarrassed to get your technique corrected
  9. Nice to see a magazine for Muay Thai, I have never seen one in any magazine or book stores yet! Surprisingly.
  10. Shotokan karate and RyuKyu Kobudo through All Okinawa Karate & Kobudo Federation (Japan) and World Kobudo Federation (WKF) Goju Ryu as well for a short time.
  11. My teachers have always stated that having a black belt means you have grasped and can solidly perform the basics
  12. As shotokan student myself, the only problems I see people have from TKD is kicking. TKD students do not turn their back foot all the way. I have trained under many senseis that did TKD before and now they are limping from knee surgery.
  13. I never seen black belts use anything else than wood. Seen a lot of flying front kicks in 3 different directions. Good luck DWx
  14. "Time in grade" I think it's important to develop the ability to do techniques and katas correctly. Also developing an understanding of how they applied and the terminology as well is important. However, I hate the stripe kyu system that some schools have. Some have up to 10 belt stripes in order to be allowed to test to the next belt. However, this is mostly applied to kids and teenagers.
  15. I have the option of adding text. I just kept it plain black.
