Just out of curiosity, is it normal for some students to double grade at some point or another? The reason I ask is because, I am currently a white belt (10th Kyu), but my sensei has recently told me that providing I can learn the syllabus for 9th and 8th Kyu by the next grading, he will put me up for a double grading. Is this a fairly normal practice? Thanks for any information in advance.

Im out on my bike nearly everyday, not even so much for a workout, i just really enjoy being on a bike lol. Plus i use it getting to and from work. So yeah my choice would be cycling.

I just got 2 patches from my sensei, one is the school badge, and the other is an organisation patch. I aint too sure if its compuslsory to have them on my Gi, if they are then I guess I will have to put them on, but my only problem is the Organisation one is big and ugly looking, so Im hoping I dont have too haha. The school one will look good when its on, but that organisation one....yeah....not so good!

Thanks for the info guys, it really is appreciated.

So do you guys think I'm best of washing it in cold water or will a normal hot wash not do any harm? Cheers

Thanks for all of the help, I decided to go for a size 4 (170) and its nearly perfect, the top is a little bit big but its 100% cotton so Im guessing it will shrink a bit, if it doesnt then it aint so bad, just be a bit more comfy than I was expecting Thanks again. Oh and another thing, is there any specific ways I should wash it and dry it to avoid it shrinking too much? Thanks
-
Yeah someone else has recommended that size too me aswell, do they shrink much when washed? Thanks

Well I have decided to order my new and FIRST ever Gi. But my problem is I don't understand the sizes they are in, so I was hopeing you guys could help me out a bit. I am 5 Foot 8, and weigh about 175lbs if thats any help. Thanks in advance.

Yeah I think I might stick with just Shotokan for the time being, atleast till I get used to what Im doing, and then possibly go to Goju at a later date.
-
So Im better sticking to just one for the time being at least then? Thanks for the advice, its much appreciated.

Just wondering, would you guys recommend practicing multiple martial arts? or should we all just stick to one? The reason I ask, is because just last week I started Shotokan, but now my father in law (who is a 2nd dan black belt in Goju Ryu) is starting up his training again (dont have a clue why he stopped in first place), and I have the time available to me to go to that aswell as Shotokan. So I was just wondering, would you guys stick to just Shotokan, or should I do both? Cheers.

The Shotokan school im in charges £10 for each kyu grade, and £30 for Dan Grades. All fee's include a new belt.
