  1. There are a lot of topics under this forum, and I didn't go through them all to see if there was one for this, so here it is. I've started strenght training and doing a little cardio for MA. Running and lifting weights hasn't been that much of a problem for me, although I haven't done it enough recently. But, the one area of the body I struggle with most is the mid section. Can anybody share some wisdom on what things I should do, I'm sure there's more than just crunches. Thanks in advance!
  2. Ressurecting kind of an old forum, but ya, I am definetly looking forward to it. Hoping Ray Park makes Snake Eyes kick as much butt as he does in the comic/cartoon. I have faith in Park.
  3. Getting ready for my yellow belt test in class either this or next month. Maybe I'll hit yellow here and there at the same time...
  4. Sensei8, that hit me. I'm coming up on my yellow belt test, and after the day I had training, those were some much needed words of wisdom. Long story short, the two Kata's that I need to have down for this test I totally messed up, which is frustrating. I'm not one to quit, and this just makes me want it that much more, but it is always good to hear someone else tell you to keep going. Not just the voice in the back of your head.
  5. Alright, good to know I'm not the only one who get's strange looks. I'm pretty sure the doctor was questioning my sanity after I left, but oh well, he got his money for taking the stitches out. I had to take a week off to let the hand heal, but it's all good now. I'm ready to go venture out for my next injury...
  6. So I'm sitting in my doctors office this morning to get some stitches taken out of my hand. Turns out if you cut your hand with a katana, you kinda need those. And the funny thing was, I was done training with it, and was just putting it back and lost grip. But, I digress. My doctor walks in, asks me how I cut my hand originally, and I told him. As with most of the doctors and nurses I saw between the ER and there, he asked, "katana?" had to explain that. Then, he asked with an extremly surprised look in his face, "you use weapons in martial arts training?" I get the feeling he's never heard of that, and this guy has been my doctor since I was little, I'm 22 now! Just kinda made me laugh a bit.
  7. Unfortunatly, I wasn't. I wasn't in town that week.... But 375,000 showing up is not bad at all. BTW, the 11 in my name is for Staal...
  8. Heck ya, Me TOO! Since I was 4 or 5. Sweet! Okay, this isn't exactly the specific forum for that, but I was curious.
  9. Looks like I'll be getting that Bokken book by Dave Lowry here soon. BTW, the beast, I see your from Pittsburgh. You wouldn't happen to be a Penguins fan would you?
  10. That was quite a fight vs. Mike Brown. Faber was able to get some some well placed elbows in there.
  11. Thanks everyone, I'll explore all those option. I definitely plan on talking to my sensei.
  12. I've put my bo through a ceiling fan before. Walking through my house, low ceiling, you get the picture.
  13. Hey all, I just bought my first Bokken to begin training with. Should be at my house today. Anybody got any good beginner tips or tricks for me. My class hasn't gone over the techniques with me yet, so I figured I'd get started on basics early.
  14. I'm a lifelong Pens fan. I'm from Ohio, but my Mom grew up in the Pittsburgh area. Watched every game of the finals and pretty much all the other playoff games. It was a great series, and to see my team and favorite player lift the cup was sweet. Redwings were a great opponent.
  15. Funny you should mention this...once in a while (can't do it often or they get used to it) I will throw both hands into the air while sparring and KIAI loudly...it really does startle your opponet! Makes for a good opening for a snap kick. Give it a try. I've thought about that one before. Since I'm new, I've only sparred once, on my first day. I used the technique of kicking my partner in the groin area (an accident.) But, since I have a little more experience under my white belt now, I'll be practicing some of these things next time I spar.
