Hmmm, it looks interesting, but I'm looking for more of a non-competitive club, where people practice their training and aren't tournament dogs. I'm still going to try it out, though. Thanks for finding that stuff for me. I really appreciate it. Do you go to school, isshinryu? If so, where? Maybe we could get together sometime and compare notes.

I attend SUNY Oneonta. It's the state college located at Oneonta, NY. It does have a Tae Kwon Do club, but I don't know if it's run by an Instructor or anything.

My college offers a Tae Kwon Do club, which I do intend to join. However, I don't know whether it is taught by an Instructor (and if so, what level), or if it is a bunch of students that just make it up as they go along. I will join it, though, but I also want to stay with my style.

Good idea, bushido_man, about the camcorder. That might be something to look into to help my training. And yes, of course I am going to go harder on myself since I don't have anyone looking in on me. I think this might be the best idea for me, it's been so long since I've practiced or trained.

Yes, but there is the problems of one, making sure the school is my style, and two, paying for it. Most schools are $100 a month or so, and I'm not willing to pay for that. If I can't find one, do you think I should? I'm leaning very much to teaching myself, I've been out for a long time, and would love to get back in.

I don't know. I moved to go to college, and I'm not sure where the martial arts schools are (if any) and what type they are. Also, I did not have to pay at my previous school, since I am in Instructor. I'm living off of my loans, so paying $100 or so a month for a school is out of the question.

I am currently without a Master, or even a Sam Dan to train under (a 3rd degree Midnight Blue belt). I've been thinking of teaching myself Tang Soo Do, mostly out of the book written by Master Kang Uk Lee. Does anyone have any opinions about this? I don't want to be thought of as impatient or impertinent, but not having anyone to train me, I feel I should train myself. Anyone have any opinions?

Yuk Ro forms
KyoSa Twigs replied to KyoSa Twigs's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
No, those were created by GrandMaster Hwang Kee himself, out of the Moo Yo Do Bo Tong Ji. They are for TSD, I didn't think thjey were studied in TKD. -
I'm not sure about TKD, but in TSD we have a group of forms called the Yuk Ro forms. They include Du Mun, Joong Jul, Po Wol, Yang Pyun, Sahl Chu and Choong Ro. I was wondering if other TSd practitioners, or TKD practitioners, study them. I was also wondering about the pronunciation. I had heard that it is pronounced "Yoong No," and my Master, ChungSaNim Melissa Paone, confirmed that. I was just wondering if anyone else knew that, because my school's owners, two Sam Dans, maintain it is pronounced phonetically. Anyone else know?

Tang Soo Do Master titles
KyoSa Twigs replied to KyoSa Twigs's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
I thought that the other title for GrandMaster, ChoongJaeNim, was for other GrandMasters, such as Master C.S. Kim, (GrandMaster of the ITF) and that KwanJangNim was reserved for GrandMaster Hwang Kee. And I'm pretty sure that you have to be an Instructor before you can test for Master Instructor (SaBomNim). -
Tang Soo Do Master titles
KyoSa Twigs replied to KyoSa Twigs's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
SaBomNim is a Master Instructor, bushido. KwanJangNim refers to Master Hwang Kee, the 'founder' of Tang Soo Do, and does mean GrandMaster. -

I thought Sa means fourth, unless it also means teacher? And what does FWIW mean? -
Self-defense and the law

That is true, JusticeZero. It's always the wrong guy or sleazey guy that has the good lawyer. -
Tang Soo Do Master titles
KyoSa Twigs replied to KyoSa Twigs's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
My Master is ChungSaNim Melissa Paone. It could be what the sajado.org website says, that when there is more than one Master, he/she takes the title ChungSaNim to differentiate. Rateh, those titles are somewhat similar in Tang Soo Do, but a head Instructor would just be a KyoSaNim. SaBomNim is a Master Instructor in TSD, so the titles of that are not the same. -
Self-defense and the law
KyoSa Twigs replied to KyoSa Twigs's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
So, sensei8, to make sure I'm understading you correctly, I can be arrested and possibly charged for a felony by solely defending myself, or possibly another person. I don't plan on getting in a fight, and if that should ever occur, I will focus entirely on the fight, but I would like to know what could happen to me as a result of my defending myself. I do think this is important. The civil suits don't concern me as much, because yes, anyone can sue anyone over anything. I do still think that's important, but feel the criminal charges are paramount. Do you think a state or federal penal code, or law book, would have more information on this? -
Tang Soo Do Master titles
KyoSa Twigs replied to KyoSa Twigs's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
Hello, joesteph, I am fairly certain of the spelling, that is what is in my student guide I have. ChungSaNim is "supposed" to be a Senior Master Instructor, as opposed to SaBomNim, a Master Instructor. I was wondering if other schools do it, also. -
I have been wondering about this for some time, and have asked a couple of people, but never really got the same answers from them. Does anyone know where I could learn about this, either a section in a law book or somewhere online? Specifically: -if I am in a fight, and defending myself or another, what criminal charges can be brought against me, i.e. assault or some such? -the person I am defending myself from, can he sue me or file other civil actions against me? Could I sue him? I think this is important for all martial artists to know, so if anyone can help me with this, that would be helping everyone out. Thanks.

Hello all, I have a question for TSD practitioners. A Master Instructor's title is SaBomNim. However, my Master, an O Dan, took the title ChungSaNim, since there is a Sa Dan Master also at my school. I was wondering if anyone else had ever heard of the title "ChungSaNim." If so, I would love to hear about it, since I've only heard of my Master with that title.

Hello, all, thank you for welcoming me. I'm really looking forward to being here myself. As to your question, joesteph, my Master and school are not part of a "Federation". Obviously, GrandMaster Hwang Kee founded Tang Soo Do, but we have since left any organization, and are just our own school.

Hello, all, my name is KyoSa Twigs. For those take Tang Soo Do, you'll know I'm an Instructor (for those that don't, KyoSaNim is Korean for Instructor). My nickname is Twigs, which is why I chose that. I just graduated with a B.S. in physics, and am a Cho Dan (first degree Midnight Blue belt) in Tang Soo Do, and a KyoSa (Instructor). I'm new here, and looking forward to learning about various Martial Arts.
