I agree with you. There is only things to loose in a fight. You'll never win anything. But, as my Sen Sei always says: if you HAVE to get in a fight... make sure the other one ends in the hospital eating with a straw for a couple of weeks.

The way the ranking systems tend to work....

Sure they are, but maybe not as much as in the West -
I agree with you

I don't have that much experience regarding katas, so I´m not a good comparative point

I agree with you between the hammer and the knife, but I meant between the stick and the knife -

But for defense purposes, which one of the two (stick and knife) do you think is better? -

Interesting point of view bushidoman, in fact I agree with you... but I'll have to say that the most primitive tool ever used by man must be a hammer. Just about anything can be used as a hammer . and it was also used in battle -

I agree with you Tallgeese. Specially the part that you must be prepared physically and mentally to hurt someone. If you take a weapon out, you must be prepared to use it, not to bluff with it. -

Hehehehehe, thanks for the heads up. Well, here in Costa Rica we don´t have winter so... we are never carrying coats. And for the legal part...well... we kinda don´t have it either. The laws here are so stupid you can kill a man and walk right out of jail just by signing every 15 days. It sucks. -

You have a good point there.... but what if he is armed with a bigger knife? The stick provides you distance, but with the knife you have to be close to your opponent to perform some damage. I guess at the end it all depends on how you feel more comfortable with. -

But do you always carry your nunchaku with you? I mean, aren´t they too bulky? -
What do you think about this? I have always discussed this with my sen sei, but we have never been able to totally agree with each other. For example, I think the stick is the best one because you can find it pretty much everywhere, unlike the katana or any other cutting arms. Besides, you are not going to walk around with a katana strapped to your waist. What are your opinions? I'm sure everyone has his/her own version

Hehehehe, that doesn't make any sense! hehehehe

In fact, many katas end with this special breathing Goju Technique. For example, Saifa ends with ibuki too

Here in latin America we have a saying: "El que mucho abarca poco aprieta", which means "The one who wants to eat all in one, cannot bite that hard".

I Like your post oneheart. I agree with you

I agree with you. I personally train a lot of one kata before moving to the next one... even though I really love learning new ones . It's all part of the process

Hehehehehe, the weirdest thing I've ever been asked to do was to receive a hit with a wood board in the stomach... that really hurt.
