  1. Whoever stated it, your right shotokan is strong with theres katas. You may notice what looks like pounding but after years of practice, your body adjusts and it no longer becomes "pounding". And also note while shotokan has strong katas with low stances; after you learn the basics, and become knowledgable with them, you have to learn to adjust your karate to for you and your body, without destroying the basics. This follows true for all styles.
  2. Hi all i am rather recent to the website. I have a quick question. I have been studying Shotokan for the past 15 yrs with my Sensei. I am currently 25 yrs old, yes i did start @ 10. While I love Shotokan i have been showing a rather huge interest in Shito-Ryu over the past few years. The problem is there does not seem to be one dojo in NYC. It seems all the authentic Shito Dojos outside of Japan seem to be in California. I have even considered moving to california, or even moving back to Japan (lived there for almost a year and a half studying as well as being on an exchange program for school) just to study. If anyone knows of any dojos in NYC it would be greatly appreciated.
  3. My belt is a plain black belt. I even took off the manufacters tag on both my gi's and obi. I have a plain black belt that has been faded over the years
