  1. My school has open class times so I can show up Monday, tuesday, thursday and friday whatever time I want basically. I go twice to three times a week. I can go twice a day if I want lol
  2. I use to injure myself frequently during sports, and I made the mistake of trying too do too much too quickly. The result is that whenever I go into my forward fighting stance (a million times a day), I wake up, or it's going to rain, my right ankle hurts. It probably will never be the same. So my advice is to take it very easy when you can was, but doing some mild movements to keep it limber. Hot and cold (alternatively) compresses will help alleviate pain and swelling. I know you already said you did this but don't underestimate in the long run. It never hurts after all. If you have to be active on it (life stops for nothing), I would at least try to get some sort of a brace or wrap to reduce too much radical motion on it. I also found that icy-hot works wonders. I played a whole volleyball season (starter/in the whole game) with a torn rotator cuff in my serving shoulder. Once again, icing/heat, massage, and icy-hot helped alot. I know I just rambled a lot but honestly those things really have worked for me in my sport injuries.
  3. In my Karate (Koei-Kan) we fight in full bogu armor so we can fight as hard as we possibly can. I have a great set of instructors and though they are strict on forms, they also push practicality in situations. I like that we just dont learn moves, we learn how to handle ourselves and react in a practical way. This was one of the reasons why I chose that particular school.
  4. We have an open type school where formal class is only held twice a week, but if you show up for it be prepared!! We do about 20 minutes of high movement cardio with additional stretches. Otherwise, whenever you show up we have a set of specific stretches we are required to do (16) in order, then speed rope for 3-7 minutes depending on your level. After that you are highly suggested to go over your techniques that you are learning as well as the ones you already know, kata etc.
  5. Thanks! I'll give it a try!
  6. Hi, all. New to Karate as well as the forum. Anyways, I frequently have hip pain where it almost feels like my hips are coming out of joint. This happens when I have stressed them at an odd angle. I have to rotate them to make the pain stop, and its not like muscle burn. Is this my hip flexor, a strain, or what? Can I make it stronger, or do I just need to stretch it or what? Thanks KitsuneAdrienne
