  1. 75 min free roll today with a couple of other nearby academies. One other BJJ school, and a Judo school. Another good time was had by all.
  2. Top spot goes to the old samurai in "Last Samurai" that watches over Tom Cruises' character. Grizzled, quite, and totally a bad dude. He comes out of no where to chop down a host of ninja half way thru the movie. A close second, from my favorite martial arts film, is Alex Grady from "Best of the Best". He's part Rocky, part veteran top kick arch-type, and also a formidable character.
  3. Agreed. Evolution is a must if the art is to: a)stay current based on our understanding of human learning, b) stay current based needs, c) stay current based on the individual practitioners. Each individual will have different attributes, and situations that should dictate how each person uses the art they are doing.
  4. 7/10 Drilled chokes from back, using gi tonight. Finished with transition to armbar. 35 min free roll
  5. 7/9 Warmed up with clinch counters and arm drags for rounds. Drilled no gi choke from modified mount. Set up from back. 20 min free roll with strikes. 30 min open mat, no gi work.
  6. 7/8 Drilled collar choke from weak side back. Transition to bow and arrow choke if he goes to strong side to escape. 35 min free roll.
  7. 7/6 Drilled the guard break from last night. Added a break via attacking the ankles. 30 min free roll.
  8. 7/5 Drilled the weeks guard passing techniques. Worked specifically on a lapel grip pass that my coach had worked with me during open mat on Wed. 20 min free roll. 30 min of free roll, new opponent every 2 minx 5 15 min stand up work. Light movement and combo drills. Yeah, that's right. I worked stand up. a little.
  9. I'm in the random internet search group. I lurked for quite some time reading and was pretty impressed with the level of dialogue. I then signed on to just comment on a thread and here we are
  10. 7/3 Drilled more guard breaking and positioning work while in the guard, leg over guard pass. 40 min free roll.
  11. 7/1 Drilled double under and over/ under guard pass. Tied them together for a flow drill. 35 min free roll.
  12. 6/29 75 min of free roll w a nearby (relatively speaking) school. A good time was had by all.
  13. It's a great style. And one that is so different from what you're doing now that it will fill in voids you have now. I took it up to fill in those holes in my stand up arts. Now I spend a majority of my martial time doing BJJ. Give it a go and see if it fits your personality and that you fit well in a nearby school. You won't regret checking into it.
  14. 6/28 Drilled a weeks review of material that I had to miss due to family commitments at night. Guard work to include, chokes, single side weave sweep, arm trap lapel choke and transition to arm bar. 30 min free roll.
  15. 6/27 Abs Fast weight circuit Short cool down run Active rest day.
  16. 6/21 Drilled week's material on taking back. Worked with coach on forcing the transition from modified mount so I could work more on finishing from back. 40 min free roll.
