  1. A fair comment, and I cannot argue with it. I think a lot of the criticism has been justified in terms of how Rousey has held herself through out her fight career. What I dislike is the more vitriolic stuff; things said by people who have never stepped near a cage, never mind a gym or dojo, who seem to be taking some strange personal relish from the moment. That is what I take issue with, and it is not just in Rousey's case, it is in many cases. However, sadly that is a part of the entertainment aspect; people enjoy seeing a fall. I never have, but it is just a difference in people. I would like to see Rousey try and win a rematch; I think she has far too much potential to stop now. However, I would not blame her for going into Hollywood full time, or even making a move over to WWE on some part-time contract. She has the name, and the natural athleticism, I think she could argue what a contract should involve even with the legendarily hard-headed McMahon. Right now; I am more interested in seeing Holm fight someone else. Give Holm a chance to establish some dominance over the division; wait until the time is right to say the only person left to fight is Rousey again. I think Rousey will need another fight or two after recovery to throw off any cage-rust, and to test and expand on the lessons her match with Holm showed up. An immediate rematch does neither fighter any favours, except perhaps putting a lot of money in their pockets. Solid post!!
  2. You may want to try something a bit lower intensity, like just some medium or faster speed walking for 20 to 30 minutes, until your back gets better. Thanks, Brian; I'll try that tonight after dinner!!
  3. While it's always an honor to be nominated, and then to win, it's quite breathtaking to be thought of by my fellow KF members. Both the nominations as well as the wins, aren't possible without every single KF member that's posted throughout the year. It's their posts that have fueled the conversations that we've all shared in...we've laughed and cried and celebrated and honored and learned together through the many posts this year. I thank each of you that have voted for me, and I'm bewildered as well as grateful for your vote of confidence in me, and this won't be taken lightly, nor will it be taken for granted. Thank you, all!! As I've mentioned before, while the KF Awards is a part of KF, it's not the reason why I'm a member here, nor is it the reason for why I post almost 4 times a day. No...it's the conversations that I crave, whether you're a MAist or not, I desire the moments when I can learn, and if I've the privilege to do so, to teach something useful to someone. I can't say it enough...Thank you, all!!
  4. Well, my lower back went out AGAIN last night; very painful!! What kind of cardio can someone like me endure??
  5. While it appears that it took some time for Pedro Sauer to have his Aha moment, he did have it for sure!!
  6. How do we choose, as to what is good and what is bad. Amongst the experts, expert 'A' will say one thing, and expert 'B' will say another thing. Being a layperson, how does one choose beyond the gut feeling(s)?! Most perplexing, to say the least!!
  7. Having the ability to use either side with equally effectiveness serves for the good. If one side is injured, the other side can continue to attack/defend through the situation.
  8. I'm a "Proof is on the floor" type of person!! Funny, and sad, at the same time, how often the white belt rank is treated more like of a disgrace, other than being treated like an honor!! Without the white belt rank, NO RANK IS ATTAINABLE!!
  9. Happy 14 and a half year birthday, KF...and many more!! And the drum roll begins!! Good luck to everyone who was nominated!! ::biting my nails::
  10. Powerful words, indeed, have never been written before, until now!! Great and solid post; way to announce KF's 14 years and a half, Heidi...AWESOME!!
  11. I wholeheartedly agree!! Let the testing cycle take care of itself!! You'll be fine!! Train hard...train well!!
  12. I know that I'm offering a far fetched idea...so... My son, Nathan, often gets some pretty nasty headaches, often right after a basketball game/practice. One visit to the doctor, he's headache free!! What was his problem? TOO MANY SODA'S/Pepsi's!! Doctor joked and said that Nathan's blood system was 99% Pepsi!! He'd drink a six pack a day! Now, he's down to 1 can a day, and much more water, now, his headaches have become a thing of the past.
  13. Solid post; one I can easily respect!!
  14. Identical to the one used in WC.
  15. It's a bad idea, imho!! For them [the police department] to say that it's a non-lethal is irresponsible on their part. I don't care if their nunchaku's are made out of plastic or not, in the wrong hands, the velocity and the like can't be ignored. In the wrong hands doesn't just speak about criminals, no! It speaks about LEO's, in this case, as well, that are beginners, thusly, inexperienced with the nunchaku. What was made illegal to possess, is now OK, because a LEO department is using them. This is opening a Pandora box, and something bad will come out of this, imho.
  16. Solid post!! This, imho, was an upset. Not like when Buster Douglas KO'd Mike Tyson, but an upset, nonetheless. May the best fighter win, and in their fight, Holm won. Can't win them all of the time!!
  17. Even after the pre-wash/dry?? I was taught that the pre-wash/dry allows the material time to do all of the shrinking that it'll ever do. That's why, with every gi I've ever purchased, I washed it and then I dried it. The Shureido gi shouldn't be placed in a dryer especially at a full cycle. But even so the gi shrinks naturally up to 4 inches and is recommended that you never place it in the dryer. I have 3 mugen gis and 3 Shureido and I will never place them in the dryer. They ruin the longevity of the gis and in my opinion the quality. But to each there own. All I know is my Shureido gis cost me a pretty penny and I want them to last as long as possible. Solid post!! I was taught, the wash/dry part, by none other than my mom. Sensei just wanted us to have a clean, odor free, gi. He wasn't particularly fond of wrinkled gi's, but, to him, it was quite trifling beyond a mention.

If that school has an open door policy, perhaps, you can still visit that school, even though you're not JKA affiliated. I'm sure that the CI operates that school, and not the JKA. I believe what one does in their own school is their business, and not that of the governing body. We don't interfere with dojo matters like this because it's simply none of our business; we don't own any Shindokan dojo. We aren't administrators of said dojo, except with the matters of testing cycles and the like.
  19. Even after the pre-wash/dry?? I was taught that the pre-wash/dry allows the material time to do all of the shrinking that it'll ever do. That's why, with every gi I've ever purchased, I washed it and then I dried it.
  20. To the bold type above... Within the scenario... Everything is wrong with that scenario! If allowed, then I suppose that rank is the most important thing to the students! If rank isn't important to the student, than the student would be proud to wear the while belt. Experience will be respected as it's revealed on the floor; other students will know that said student(s) have experience/knowledge. Also, I feel that rank must be important to you as well, even though you're the instructor. Otherwise, you would've presented them [students] with a white belt without question and/or much discussion, if any. Those students have no rank in your style, so, tell them to wear the white belt and be proud to wear it because that's what they are in your style. Furthermore, you could be allowing this to pad the P&L's bottom line!! In a try to keep a respectable student body count, you allow them to maintain rank ON YOUR FLOOR, even though, they're not ranked in your style. Having said that, away from the scenario, the decision, per this scenario, is up to you. While I don't agree with your decision, which means I don't like your decision, I still respect you for your decision, and I still respect you both as a excellent MA/CI as well as a person; my friendship wouldn't have been waned, not even the slightest.
  21. Rousey’s medical suspension is for 180 days, unless she is cleared by a head CT scan. She is not to fight again for 60 days and not to have contact for 45 days. The MMA landscape might be different while she's out for these 6 months. But as it's been said already, when Rousey does return, she'll "be a beast"; a force to be reckoned with.
  22. I agree! I've never liked that part of MMA. Whenever Silva did that; I was ashamed to be a MAist. When I first saw Rousey do that, I became ashamed again. Why? Laypersons will lump you in with what they know, and what they know about the MMA is based on what's projected by the fighters as well as the promoters.
  23. Rousey didn't only lose, she was given a lesson in striking and was then KO'd in the 2nd round. Could it be that her previous fights were hand picked for her. She won them convincingly so, but against whom??!!?? I don't doubt here abilities, after all, she's an Olympian! She met here match with Holm!! Rousey better do her homework much better if she expects to beat Holm!
