^^^ this.. I have trained with some of the organizations you mentioned in your post, and while they can speak similarly in terms of negatives such as cross training, it has never resulted in "disciplinary actions"; it's almost religious at this point, which creeps me out .. there was also this comment on reddit: "Not surprised one bit. Where I am to even join JKA, you need to submit a letter you sent to your Sensei basically stating you're leaving them as proof that you've committed to them. They may even hold ranks away from you because of this. Horribly political. "

Late response, but I am delighted to hear of your progress. I really value you and your contributions to this forum. I will continue to wish you the best and keep you in prayer as Ive known others in your situation and have had good success as a result of treatments.

There have been discussions on Reddit and other platforms over the surfacing of this letter dated August 10, 2023, which was addressed to members of the JKA and clearly states that disciplinary action will be taken if any of its members attend a seminar hosted by a group that is not affiliated with the JKA. "TO:JKA/WF member countries and organizations Dear representatives we appreciate your continues support for promoting JKA Karate in the world. You may have recieved the invitation for the seminars organized by the Japan Traditional Karate Association (JTK) which will be held in Denmark from 1st to 3rd of September and inGermany from 8th to 10th September this year. We must indicate you all that JKA has nothing to do with JTK. In addition, JKA does not allow participation in their seminars. Therefore, please be aware that attenting those seminars may violate the ethics and Disciplinary regulations. We would like to ask you to make thhis issue known to your every club, dojo and member. Thank you for your cooperation. Seizo Izumaya Managing Director JKA HQ " I'm interested on everyone's opinions on this subject

I'm researching different gyms and want to attend a few classes to gauge the vibe. A nearby gym offers an excellent structured linear program, however the membership fees are far higher than those of the gym I was training at. These days, most gyms in my neighborhood charge more than $200! Since I also train another style at the same time, this is another factor Im considering.

fantastic post with much of information! Undoubtedly a rabbit hole worth exploring with a few inquiries. I'm limited to what I've seen on YouTube, but they certainly appear to be of a high caliber by WKF standards. From the looks of it, Najaima Kenko is a true Mr. Miyagi narrative..

Thanks Darth, JJ is a great supplement to my karate, it makes me nervous me nervous jist thinking that I would have to hold off karate training due to injuries sustained from jj. Ill give your recommendation a thought for sure, I was attending a sport jj school and found sport schools lack emphasizing the fundamentals. Whole year was focused on the stuff like deep half guard sweeps Berimbolos, dela riva etc.. just lacked the fundamentals.. thats why I got interested in the Gracie university curriculum as its more structured. I was in very good shape aside from my injuries, which really puts me at a cross roads because I loved the work out from it.

Does anyone have any experience with this system? I was made aware there are some dojos near my city that teach this style. It almost reminds me Shito Ryu with palm strikes, I also see they participate in sports karate which I didnt think Okinawan styles werent really into competition.

update: I wanted to provide a little update on my training, which I had been doing consistently until lately when I was forced to halt training due to a series of ailments. I suffered some significant injuries and recovered from them in the previous year or so. It's a great activity, incredibly addictive, but it comes with risks, particularly for anyone over the age of 40. I'm going to start Gracie University and practice with friends in the future because I can't risk any more injuries while having my career and family. The injuries occurred through no direct fault of my partners; there are so many variables and moving parts in bjj that make accidents happen..

Would you happen to have the names of the senseis involved with the video? Is it related to Shotokan?

its unfortunate as Matsumura dojos are rare to find. Is there a specific reason Soken sensei withheld the other Pinan katas?
-
It's interesting to note that a dojo a few cities away teaches Matsumura through Seijun Kina (studied under Soken), and they teach all five Pinans at that school. What would one say if an individual holds a dan rank in matsumura but didn't know a few pinans for the reasons stated above and tried to join a school that teaches all 5 without looking like a fool?
