In this forum, you can create an ongoing thread where you document your training. The definition of "training" is open-ended. It could be exercise and physical training, your martial arts training, or perhaps some other form of training.

For inspiration on what your thread might look like, please see examples by DarthPenguin, Wayofaswede, and camotheman. If you're not quite ready to start your own thread, you can also contribute to bushido_man96's training log, which is open to all.

I did a few sets of push-ups (trying to work up to 100!), and did some sets of slow side kicks. I had my son at the house, and he managed to crawl on my back as I was doing push-ups! That adds some resistance, for sure!

camotheman’s Training Log

Due to a combination of work and two little kids running about i've been out of the gym too much over the last few years and now am weak as a kitten and out of practice martial arts wise!

I've trained in a few martial arts over the years but my current focuses are BJJ and Shotokan. At Shotokan i have decided to regrade as i was away for so long and started again at White belt last October - I started back as i am going to classes with my son. The class is mainly adults but they are fine with him attending as long as i am there too. At BJJ i got my Blue belt in 2014 and have trained inconsistently since due to a lot of injuries, work and the appearance of the mini people.

I'm currently looking to do one class session of karate a week plus some more in my own time and 2-3 bjj sessions a week depending on work.

Training goals :

I want to regrade to Shodan and then subsequently would like to see if i can manage to get to Nidan by the time i turn 50! I would like to get my BJJ purple by the time i turn 45 ideally and then see what happens.

Lifting wise i want to recover my prior levels of strength from when i lifted a lot more frequently. I have always been much weaker at Push exercises due to my long limbs so would like to increase them too.

Plan is to lift weights 2X per week following a modified version of the 531 programme. Goal is to hopefully match and exceed my prior lifetime PRs though a lot of them are a long way off!

Target PRs from past

Squat : 150kg x 5

Deadlift : 200kg x 5

Bench : 100kg x 1(much weaker presser)

Overhead press : 60kg x 1

BB Row : 102.5kg x 3 (with weight belt)

All lifting to be done in garage in home gym. I have a squat rack, trap bar, 7ft bar, swiss bar/football bar, EZ curl bar, 2 x olympic db handles, 180kg in plates and assorted KBs

Apologies for the small book for the initial post but thought some background would help for context and encourage myself!

Way of a Swede (from 8 kyu to...)

Having just found my way back to Karate after a 2 year break due to having a 3rd child, I thought I'd keep a blog thread here where I can write down thoughts and insights, and get input on training habits, interpretations of key concepts etc

Starting with the "Here and now": 8th kyu Shukokai Shito-ryu. Trying to apply the same motto to Karate as to my drawing practice: "Not a day without a line". Translated to my Karate practice it becomes: Not a day without a technique. Often this just means a couple of blocks or similar - just to find continuity and keep in touch with my artistic ambition.

So happy that I this semester return to the dojo - along with my two sons, finally eager to start training.

Ordered my first karate reference book the other day, "The essential book of karate" (Graeme). Can't wait to get it in the mail. Will use it to read about techniques, take notes etc.

Also have made some YT playlists about Budo (reminding me to not let go of the experience I have in Aikido. 3rd Kyu Aikikai is the highest grade I've reached in a Budo art so far), Karate and Kihon/Katas I am supposed to - or soon will be supposed to - know.

Happy to once more continue along the way of Budo, already seeing positive effects in how I handle conflicts at work etc

Looking forward to sharing my journey with you and to hear your thoughts about how I take each new step along the way

Karate4Life Training Log

OSU!

I'm starting this training log in order to keep track of what I'm doing, and I'm looking forward to reading your feedback. Feel free to comment on what to improve/change.

[Hope making this topic is okay btw ^^]

I'll start with what I ate at what times, then training.

Woke up at about 6:30 and had a muller light strawberry yogurt for breakfast.

10am came, and its break time, so I had a Innocence Manga and Passion fruit smoothy [100% fruit, nothing else]

about 1.15pm I had my lunch where I had a ham, lettuce and cucumber sandwich, with another one of those smoothies.

6:30pm I had my main meal, which was chicken pasta bake ontop of toast with a side salad, and a glass of water.

9:30pm had toast with reduced sugar strawberry jam.

12:30am Bed time

Now for training.

Well, had a full day of college, so the only training I got there was walking up and down, and around the college several times. With about 4 flights of stairs a good few times ^^.

7:30pm went over to my kickboxing/karate place, and was told we were doing all fitness tonight. [Yay ]. So it started off at just before 8, and we had to run around the hall, in any direction we wanted, when sensei helen would shout change, and we'd change direction. We did that for about 15 - 20 minutes.

We then started to have to sprint and jump for each square, missing one in the middle. Then doing forward rolls across the room, and then side stepping then star jumps.

We stretched off, and got ready for our 'circuits'. We got into groups of 2, or 3, where one person stood at one side of the hall, and the other at the other side. We got different exercises to do, then after doing ten of them we had to run to the other side of the hall, and back, and do ten more. We did that for 2 minutes at each time.

The exercises include, lying on your back doing cycling movements with your legs, power push ups, crunches, squates, lunges, sit ups, star jumps etc.

After that we had to jog on the spot, and every 10 seconds we had to jog as fast as we could for ten seconds. Did that for a while then stretched off as a cool down.

12pm just before I went to bed I did about 20 press ups, and 50 sit ups, plus a few reps of my dumbells.

So that was Tuesday Will post todays tomorrow.
