SaiFightsMS
I get a few things out of meditation/relaxation techniques others here may not because my physical situation is different. It is a non-physical way to harness emotions before they go out of control. A way to kind of get back to a more level center point. It helps put things back in perspective. As to how often - not enough.
dreamer38f
I use meditation/relaxation/breathing to get my brain back on the subject at hand or to forget what it is that is distracting me. When in the dojang...that is the subject at hand, not what my kids are doing are how hard the day at work was. Basically like sai said..to get to a level center point or as I say....get back to earth If you think you can't, then you must. If you must, you will. Deathcometh
I use it to get away from the world when everything seems to be coming down around me. And to make sure I don't kill some really stupid person who picks the wrong time to mess with me. And only when I need it or just have time to fill. Jack
I try to meditate first thing when I wake up and last thing at night. It calms me and helps me get to sleep easier. It also helps me wake up and puts me in a better mood. I do it to clear my mind of thoughts and allows myself to relax from thinking for a few minutes each day. LanceWildcat1
Meditation, for me really started in the hospital about 5 years ago. I had just survived a stroke and gangrene, which took my pectoral muscle on my left side, along with much skin on my chest which had to be replaced by skin grafts from my legs. I couldn't speak for some time after the stroke, so making my wishes and want's known was difficult, to say the least. I would get awfully frustrated, so much so that my doctor suggested a consult for me with a psychiatrist. After explaining my dilemma to him, he taught me how to meditate. This was the best thing for me, what with the pain and frustration of my treatment. Years later, I still utilize this meditation, and it works for me. I find that I am much more focused, less stressed, and I can learn much easier by utilizing the principle's of meditation and 'centering'. Avoid rather than check,Check rather than hurt,Hurt rather than maim,Maim rather than kill..For all life is precious,Nor can it ever be replaced. SheepSkills
I meditate to clear my mind of all the distractions so I can more easily focus on the pure art of what ever i'm doing. It works for a little while, but after a few minutes I start dozing off... I guess I should start counting my sheep so I can get to bed easier.... I try to do it everyday, but I mostly do it at the dojo since my sensei has us meditate before and after class each day. It also helps to go over techniques mentally when you just learned so you can keep them easier.
dtstiachi
I try to do Zhan Zhuang (standing meditation) every day. (Optimum for me is an hour a day). I get to focus my energy and relax my body/spirit. I also use it to cultivate my chi and work on my inner strength. Hope this helps. "The journey of a 1,000 miles starts with but a single step." greenbelt_girl15
Some of my meditation is for calming myself, but because I'm a Christian most of my meditation is on scripture because the Bible says to meditate on God's word both day and night. It's a wonderful way to wind down and spend time with God. God has not given us a spirit of fear, but a spirit of love, a spirit of power, and of self-discipline.2 Timothy 1:
