Has anyone played around with the Century Torrent T1 or T2 free-standing bags? At the moment, that looks like my best option for a "heavy bag" type contraption, given the low and finished ceilings in my basement. If so, what did you think?
If you've had experience with other free-standing bags, that feedback would also be appreciated!

I've trained with every known free standing bag, including the Torrent T1/T2. What I like about them is that they're not easily knocked over, and I hit like a mule, in which I have to stand up the others quite often. And yes, I knock these over as well, but not often.
All in all, Torrent is a solid free standing bag!!

I've only trained on BOB, and I knocked him over a few times... but now he has more water in the tank, and it's harder (but not impossible) for me to do so.
Thanks for the input! You've further reinforced my desire for one of these.

I’ve seen videos of people knocking over a BOB and the like. Other than during running and jumping kicks (and stuff like that), it’s pretty much always been because of one of two things -
The base wasn’t properly filled
They were pushing the bag with their kicks and punches
Typically when you see a heavy bag swinging wildly, such as a 100 lb+ bag, the person’s pushing it. Intentionally or unintentionally. Look at videos of boxers who know what they’re doing. When there’s no one holding the bag for them, the bag still doesn’t swing all over the place. It’s not because they’re pulling their punches, it’s because they’re actually punching instead of punching then pushing. Someone who’s not hitting it correctly will make it fly around; someone who knows what they’re doing will make the bag “dance.”
Don’t get me wrong, there’s people who’ll knock over a freestanding bag even thought it’s properly filled and they’re hitting right. But those are guys like sensei8 who routinely hit a 500 lb bag |

If it's anything like a Wavemaster... one of our guys snapped once with a roundhouse once  kicked it clean off the base. He is a bit of a physical beast though
If you can't hang a bag I think they are a good option. The benefit of a hanging bag is that it swings and moves with each strike which you won't get with a freestanding bag, but for basic bag work they are a good alternative.

I’ve heard that happening from several people with the Wavemaster 2XL/XXL. Watching a Torrent assembly video from Century, it appears they’ve redesigned the part that goes into the base. Rather than the base being a donut, so to speak, where the bag threads into it, the base has a shaft part that the bag slides onto. No more unscrewing and the bag part coming up. At least in theory anyway. |

I have. I'm not sure that would work with the layout of my basement. Our ceilings are about 6 and a half feet tall where there is no plumbing, boiler pipes or electrical. I'm also nervous about drilling into the floor.
