I have to say the cane is most under rated weapon in the world. It looks harmless, no more potent as a weapon then a stick of 3'. I had the chance to do extensive work with the crook on a combat cane from Cane Masters last night and it was mind blowing... I have been working with the Irish bhata on and off for a few months and thought I knew what to expect, but I didn't have a clue.

Take a look at cane as a weapon, it won't let you down.

I totally agree that the cane is an effective weapon, but hardly "harmless" looking, as anything stick-like is.

We do kobudo weapons training in our dojo, and I use the cane in conjunction with that. I have no formal cane training however, but it's pretty easy to use sai, tonfa, bo/jo, etc techniques with a cane.

We study cane techniques as well.

I love all the locking/choking opportunities with a circled handle.

In Echanis' book "Stick Fighting" aka the "red book" you can see some pictures of Hwa Rang Do GM Joo Bang Lee demonstrating some interesting cane techniques.

I'm a bit young to carry a crooked cane on a daily basis without looking out of place, but I try to carry a crook handled umbrella. Now if I could only find a sturdy one.

I'm no longer posting here. Adios.

I've only seen cane kata's once or twice, does anyone know of any online?

I don't know of any online. I do share your enthusiasm for the cane as a weapon though. I've only been questioned by ordinary folks as to why I carry a cane with me in public. I tell them I had a tragic Tonka truck accident as a child and that takes care of it. As for everyone else, what are they going to say? You even get special service at airports when you have a cane. They even give you a ride to your gate in the little cart. :)
