krunchyfrogg Posted October 11, 2003 Posted October 11, 2003 Hey everybody. I just got home from my second class, and I want to know how to tie my belt so that another student won't have to show me next time. Is there a website with illustrations that somebody could point me towards? TIA! SaiFightsMS Posted October 12, 2003 Posted October 12, 2003 This is a very common question. And after you have been in the dojo a while you will begin to truly appreciate the difficulties, and the humor in learning to tie your own belt, watching others try to figure it out and seeing just how they managed to make it look like that. Here are some of the links to old threads on belts and their tying. http://www.karateforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=8542&highlight=tie+belt http://www.karateforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=7484&highlight=tie+belt
Jussi Häkkinen Posted October 12, 2003 Posted October 12, 2003 I still think - since some schools use the different tying methods - that old good "ask your sensei" -method works wonders here. Jussi HäkkinenOkinawan Shorin-Ryu Seibukan Karate-Do (Kyan Chotoku lineage)TurkuFinland
krunchyfrogg Posted October 12, 2003 Author Posted October 12, 2003 Thanks for the help. Yes, I will ask my sensei again. He just showed me yesterday for the first time. I'd just like to impress him by doing it correctly the next class I have. Goju1 Posted October 13, 2003 Posted October 13, 2003 Here is a good one - it gets that nice look in the back without cross over and the perfect little 'cave' in the front knot. http://www.all-karate.com/karate_belt_tie_1.php

What's with everybody misspelling this word here? Is it an inside joke?
