NightShade_UK Posted October 5, 2003 Posted October 5, 2003 hey everybody. a friend of mine, his name is ralph, wants to study a martial art; which is a good thing his main goal is to get into shape, which for him means develope strenght, cardio and flexibility. he is not fat or anything, but he wants to look a little more trained/fit whatever u like. everything else like self defense, flashynes etc are nto so important i think. i myself train in tkd, but i am not sure whether this is the best way to go for ralph as well. i told him i'm gonna think about it... so what do you guys say?
battousai16 Posted October 5, 2003 Posted October 5, 2003 if all he wants is strength, flexibility, and cardio, i think any art will do, really. tae kwon do seems just fine to me. or contemporary wushu "I hear you can kill 200 men and play a mean six string at the same time..."-Six String Samurai
Darce Posted October 6, 2003 Posted October 6, 2003 It doesn´t depend on the art it depends on the trainer. Shukokai Karate, Orange belt ( 7. kyu)
battousai16 Posted October 6, 2003 Posted October 6, 2003 a good point, but if virtually all this person is looking for is strength, flexability, and cardio, even the worst instructor could give him a little. hell, TAE BO could give him that. the chances are, however, that once he starts he'll probably want a little more for his time and money. that said, he should still probably look for instructors over an art, darce has a good point indeed. mya Posted October 6, 2003 Posted October 6, 2003 Maybe your friend could just get a manual labor like in a cotton field. ****Kidding**** Anyway there are many sports/gimnastics out there that will give him that without the need to be a marcial art. But i sense that your friend has probably a will power problem or he could just not let himself get fat. So low will power migth be a double edged weapon, meaning that is he does a to soft thing like Gimnastics he might give up after a month cause its so borring to work out for work out. But in a marcial art once things get thought with pain flying by many people give up cause thay arent paying to get beaten up by some stranger. So i would go with a sport thing with heavy social interaction, like TKD or Fencing. Judo/Jujitso might be also nice but he might not like to roll on the floor. You never gess the kind of "little princeses" on finds in a dojo (and im talking about males).
