ronryu Posted October 4, 2003 Posted October 4, 2003 Well that is hard to say when you first start in karate and are taught a kata you are told where to kiai. however after you have been doing it for many years you will find yourself kiai'ing in different places. In my opinion certian moves and places in kata will pull the kiai out of you. In other words just let it happen. Karate is not a sport , it is a way of life .Sandan Motobu ha Shi-to ryu karate Katsu ryu kempo Ryukyu kobudo

SaiFightsMS Posted October 4, 2003 Posted October 4, 2003 How about towards the beginning of the kata when you step toward your right into a ridge hand. Before you start moving forward. That is where we were taught the kiai is.
Pacificshore Posted October 4, 2003 Posted October 4, 2003 I was taught that the kiai came as you did your third stomping kick/inside crescent kick and block sequence . Di'DaDeeeee!!!Mind of Mencia
G95champ Posted October 4, 2003 Posted October 4, 2003 On the last backfist moving forward and the last rising block in the kata (General George S. Patton Jr.) "It's the unconquerable soul of man, and not the nature of the weapon he uses, that ensures victory."
tommarker Posted October 7, 2003 Posted October 7, 2003 yes, and it feels very awkward for me. I'm no longer posting here. Adios.
G95champ Posted October 7, 2003 Posted October 7, 2003 It has moves for staff defense in it. I have done most of the Heian Kata with a Bo however I have never tried Jittie. Honestling I think the first few moves would be a bit difficult as well as the stomp and backfist section but Im sure it could be applyed. (General George S. Honestling I think the first few moves would be a bit difficult as well as the stomp and backfist section but Im sure it could be applyed. The first two moves could be slow, upward blocks. The backfists could be changed to downward thrusts or blocks. The stomp is more difficult.
