Sho-ju Posted October 3, 2003 Posted October 3, 2003 (edited) Can anyone shed light on this? I prefer to use sanchin dachi in this kata... Edited October 3, 2003 by Sho-ju
Jussi Häkkinen Posted October 3, 2003 Posted October 3, 2003 Yes. It's called "hangetsu dachi". Weight centered, not forwards like zenkutsu dachi. http://www.24fightingchickens.com/kata/hangetsu.html should tell you more. If you want a juicy bit, I could share that we do our version of that kata - Matsumura no Seisan - using shikodachi as a main stance. SaiFightsMS Posted October 3, 2003 Posted October 3, 2003 Think of hangetsu stance as a zenkutsu dachi done in such a way as to protect the groin area. Rather than thinking turn the toes in, or point the knees in think of it as closing the groin area. And when the floor is very slippery as often happens on a hot day when everyone is sweating buckets see how much less you slide when moving in zenkutsu dachi as compared to hangetsu dachi.
