hold on guys and take a few steps back.

jujutsu is primarily a grappling art.

it makes sense that they will be good grapplers.

to say that they are not is a bit dumb.

but then to say that every single one is good is also a bit dumb.

let's switch it a little.

boxers punch.

therefore boxers will be good punchers.

not all boxers will be good punchers.

tkd is mainly a kicking art.

tkd guys can kick really well.

not all tkd guys will do all of the kicks.

wing chun is mainly a hand art.

wing chun guys are famous for fast hands and techniques.

not all wing chuns can fight with the techniques.

hope you can see my point...

That's not the point I'm trying to make.

I'm simply saying that he grappled with one, and then thnks they're all just as good.

While it is logical to conclude that BJJ blackbelts would be goot at grappling, one grappling match isn't sufficient evidence (and i'll say it again, I don't doubt that most BJJ black belts are "awesome" at grappling, but that's not the point)

And I'll ask again, what evidence do you require?

Would you be saying the same thing if someone had made the Ferrari comment I posted?

BJJ - Black Belt under John Will (Machado)

Shootfighting - 3rd Degree Black Belt

TKD - Black Belt

ok fair enough.

but then at least he actually crossd hands with a bjj blackbelt before making deciding.

would you have prefered he make that kind of statement WITHOUT experiencing it first-hand?

Wow. I don't know where to start. I have heard of BJJ blackbelts being great grapplers. I grappled with one. He beat me soundly. I'm NO slouch what-so-ever. Obviously I haven't grappled with ALL bJJ blackbelts but I do know that it takes YEARS and a lot of skill to aquire one. If you understood what it takes to become a BJJ blackbelt then maybe you would understand what I am talking about. JohnnyS' ferrari analogy is spot on. And by the way I am by no means a BJJ apologist, but I will give credit where it is do. So should you.

Tapped out, knocked out, or choked out...Take your pick.

okay...fighting with ONE practioner in no way is a reflection of all of them.

You can say "That guy was damn good", but it's quite an assumption to go from "my friend beat me" to "All BJJ black belts are awesome"

trust me... bjj black belts are awesome. roll with several of them. you'll see.

your point is moot though. you're not gonna find a bjj instructor worth his salt that is going to pass out a black belt to someone who doesn't deserve it. You can't say that about many other styles.

I think that this argument shows just how much many of us have to grow in our MENTAL approach to training. the fact that people are still arguing in this way kind of dismays me. I have rolled with a whole lot of bjj bb: Ralph, Royce, Crosley, fabio Santos, Renzo, Cesar, Kurt O, Cameron Earle, BJ Penn, Rickson, Sapao, Vitor and a whole host. They all have a different style, but they are not necessarily better than the Gokors and the other guys like Marco Ruas, Erik Paulson and the like. They are just different.

If my survival means your total destruction, then so be it.
