Back in TKD :D

After 4 years, I'm finally back in TKD. It feels nice to be back again. I seem to have a very nice dojang, which focuses on being able to handle yourself in a street situation.

 

Though there seems to be some differences from my old school.

 

Has any one ever heard of UTA, that's the affilation my school has. Very odd, the first form is si-jak form, which is different from the usual chon-ji form. Anyone familure with this?

I am guessing that the Si-jak is his own personal form. Sijak in Korean means begin. UTA seems to be an independent organization from USTU or ITF. What are his more advanced forms called?

Welcome back, Mantra Locust. I'm coming back after about a 4 year break too. It's definitely good to be back. I'm slowly relearning all the forms and getting my sparring rhythm back. It's going to take a while to get back into figthing shape though.

I'm starting a new training routine tomorrow, which includes conditioning, weight training and cardio.

 

I'm out of shape compared to 4 years ago, I'm fairly young though, 20, so I have plenty of time to get back in to shape, but I want to get into fighting condition ASAP.

 

So many tournaments, so little time.

Rock on. I've been lifting the past few years, but my endurance has gone to hell. Consequently, I've been doing a lot more cardio now. Well, I'm also lifting w/ greater intensity now.

 

Yea, it definitely helps being young. (I'm 22 now.) Recovery's quicker. You don't have to worry about excessive body pain. I have to give those older guys at my dojo credit for pushing through the pain. I hope I'm that tough when I'm that age. It's kind of sad though. Some of those guys are in better shape than I am.

I've only been lifting for about a year, had to take a 2 month break because of a back injury. (I've learned to use a belt since :)

 

I'd say I have decent endurance, normally when I lift, I lift with medium weight, high rep movements. I used to lift with high weight, low rep, but I found that it's easy to head to injury that way.

 

I've just got into the habit of doing cardio. I try to run at least 3 times a week.

 

Yeah, I have to give some older people at my dojang credit too, I have two that are a ways older than me but can run a mile continuous without stopping....I went jogging with them once where they'd done this, I made it half way and was about dead when I stopped, this inspired me to get back into shape (:

I've heard of it, My instructors taught it to us one night in Senior belt class, everyone was like "si-jak" where did this come from... Anyways, It good luck on getting back to it :)
