Sho-ju Posted September 29, 2003 Posted September 29, 2003 I've only seen Shotokan and Shito ryu do these kata, any other styles train these?
ronryu Posted September 29, 2003 Posted September 29, 2003 Most shuri type styles do thise kata as well as ji'in most of the shorin ryu styles run them . Karate is not a sport , it is a way of life .Sandan Motobu ha Shi-to ryu karate Katsu ryu kempo Ryukyu kobudo
G95champ Posted October 1, 2003 Posted October 1, 2003 yeah jiin or as we say it Giin is the third kata in that group. All prob. came from the same base kata and have developed over time. Giin is one of my favorite kata but its not practiced a lot. Im also a big fan of Jittie. Jion is ok but I like the other 2 better. (General George S. Patton Jr.) "It's the unconquerable soul of man, and not the nature of the weapon he uses, that ensures victory."
TangSooGuy Posted October 1, 2003 Posted October 1, 2003 We do Jion in Tang Soo Do (at least in the Association I'm in), but not until 4th Dan.
tommarker Posted October 1, 2003 Posted October 1, 2003 If I'm not mistaken, TSD also has Jitte, but we call it Sip Soo (10 hands). I'm no longer posting here. Adios.
Karateka Posted December 12, 2003 Posted December 12, 2003 For Shito-Ryu, the four kata's used for our Black Belt Testing (Seiko-Kai) is Jitte, Jiin, Jion, and Bassai-Dai, as well as any Kata you may have learned before. "Never hit a man while he's down; kick him, its easier"Sensei Ron Bagley (My Sensei)
TangSooGuy Posted December 15, 2003 Posted December 15, 2003 If I'm not mistaken, TSD also has Jitte, but we call it Sip Soo (10 hands). true. I often have difficulty remembering which of the Japanese forms equate to the names we use in TSD..
tommarker Posted December 15, 2003 Posted December 15, 2003 The Korean is enough at times At one point, I tried to read as much as I could about Sip Soo, because I just didn't get it. Oh yeah... still don't completely get it! I'm no longer posting here. Adios.
