Isshin Ryu Kata

Sho-ju

Recommended Posts

Tatsuo Shimabuku's uncle's name was Ganeku. Master Advincula has told me the story of the verticle fist-- he is my Sensei. Travel to https://www.isshin1.com to discover all you'll need to know about Isshinryu's history. Jaa mata.

The patch or crest worn by Isshinryu karateka often raises admiration and curiosity. The patch is based on a day dream Tatsuo Shimabuku had in the fifties while he was creating his karate style. This dream was the missing piece in the puzzle called Isshinryu. The patch is often incorrectly called Mizu Gami, which means 'water goddess'. Originally the Isshinryu emblem was called 'Isshinryu No Megami', which means 'Goddess of Isshinryu'. The goddess is the Goddess of Isshinryu karate and not the goddess of water.

AndrewGreen could you tell me which kobujutsu masters he did train with and your sources? I like to have the best up to date info. Thanks.

Some from Chotoku Kyan. Tokemine no Kun, Kyan no Sai and Kusanku sai are a result of training with Kyan.

Vast majority from Taira Shinken Urashi, shishi, chantan Yara and Hamahiga are from this. I'm sure he learnt more, but just didn't include them...

Thanks for the answer. I knew he trained with those guys but I didn't know what weapons if any that he trained with them. Where did you get this info if I may ask?

A block is a strike is a lock is a throw.

No one source,

I've been involved in isshinryu for quiet some time and have read a lot of different material on the history.

That is fairly basic knowledge and pretty much agreed upon by everyone.
