jakmak52 Posted October 23, 2001 Posted October 23, 2001 I study the ITF style of TKD and use my kicking maybe 70% of the time because of the distance I can cover as well as the power I generate from my legs compared to hand attacks, although a spinning backhand can cause extreme discomfort Best regards,Jack Makinson
moobrack Posted October 24, 2001 Author Posted October 24, 2001 Are there forms(kata's) in TKD? Anthony Bullock1st Dan Black Belt - Shotokan Karate5th Kyu Yellow Belt - Aiki-Jutsuhttps://www.universaldojo.com Coming Soon
jakmak52 Posted October 24, 2001 Posted October 24, 2001 The forms (kata, poomse, etc) I study are from the ITF (International) style. I suppose there's alot of different ideas and thoughts as to where they originated. I was led to believe the kata i'm studying was presented by General Choi Hong-hi & Mr. Jhoon Rhee, I have no reason to doubt it. The current kata I practice is Tan-Gun, ToSan, YulKuk, Hwa-Rang,Toi-Ge,Choi-Ge,Chung-Moo, Kwan-Ge, and Bassai-Dai. Now of course there's different spellings and variations on the moves. I love um all. My hardest to learn, hahaha, the first. Thanks. [ This Message was edited by: jakmak52 on 2001-10-24 12:30 ] Best regards,Jack Makinson
taezee Posted October 24, 2001 Posted October 24, 2001 those are the older more traditional forms and i believe the much better ones...then tae guek forms are more of and adpation for modern sparring...i dont like them but the WTF wants them..i guess after coryo they get nice..but white to black i dont like them... jakmak52 Posted October 24, 2001 Posted October 24, 2001 The (Hyungs) that were taught to me I know are traditional, but you know I've watched other "forms" performed at tournaments here in Florida and it freaks me out how they "resemble" other styles and disciplines..it's really exciting for me to watch other's do their thing..keep it up.. Best regards,Jack Makinson
Deathcometh Posted February 24, 2002 Posted February 24, 2002 Yes TKD does but it does have many other things (punchs, blocks, etc.)
Bretty101 Posted February 24, 2002 Posted February 24, 2002 The taekwondo i do is about 50:50 hands and feet. I'm an ITF geezer. My patterns are about 75% hand techniques. Never underestimate punchs!!! Bretty
three60roundhouse Posted February 24, 2002 Posted February 24, 2002 Yep, I'm in ITF too, and the form I currently practice has 38 techniques....only two of them are kicks! 1st dan Tae Kwon DoYellow Belt Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu16 Years OldGirls kick butt!
spinninggumby Posted February 24, 2002 Posted February 24, 2002 Actually even in WTF the forms/poomsae (and even koryo and on) mostly consist of hand movements and techniques. There are probably about 2-8 kicks max in the majority of all forms which each consist of about 20-30+ steps. _________________ "Being able to move in and out of styles, movements, and rhythms with ease is the highest skill." - Donnie Yen "If you have to resort to violence, you've already lost" - Rising Sun "The finest steel emerges from the hottest furnace" [ This Message was edited by: spinninggumby on 2002-02-26 14:27 ] 'Conviction is a luxury for those on the sidelines'William Parcher, 'A BEAUTIFUL MIND'
